He has very clear recollections of the gig - which apparently transformed his life and ensured his career progressed in a new, different way to that that he'd previously planned. Unfortunately, his "getting stuck in" act that he details so well on his sites, has seen him fall off a stage in Germany, and hurt his back so much that he's now in perpetual pain. So Dave, if you read this, I'm very sorry for bumping into you that day, long ago, which has ended with you having back pain. Who knows what would have happened if you've just stayed a "normal" magician... ;-) Here's a few links to Dave's work and stuff.
