40th Anniversary of the Earthrise Picture
This is the original colour photo taken by Anders (Borman’s b&w was the first). This is how Anders framed it in the zero gravity environment – north is at the top and the craft is whizzing towards the Earth at this point in it’s lunar orbit.
I think NOW is the time for the environmental movement to rise up and do some serious work FOR our world before it’s too late.
THIS picture should be the inspiration – it certainly always has been for me.
The crushing realisation that the Earth is a tiny blue blob in an ocean of blackness, and that our nearest neighbour is a barren grey hell should be enough to inspire all, except those Bush-ites and Bush-ettes who are wedded to the idea of slash, cut and burn till the end of days.
After all, no matter where the fiction writers and our human imagination take us, physically, we are actually stuck right here on Earth with no chance of getting off.
