Buddhist Advice for 4th May, 2009

datePosted on 01:07, May 5th, 2009 by Strangely

After this day of action I’ve been taking against the naffness and sheer greed in the world, I’d like to share some words of wisdom and encouragement that I’ve just received before I retire for the day:

The strength of our life force manifests itself in our voices.
Let’s therefore use our courageous voices for the cause of justice and make them echo all over the world, and so help as many people as we can to hear about this Buddhism and its philosophy! – Daisaku Ikeda, “Kyo no Hosshin”, Seikyo Shimbun, May 4th, 2009

“Rather than offering up ten thousand prayers for remedy, it would be better simply to outlaw this one evil.” – On Establishing the Correct Teaching for the Peace of the Land – The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin, Vol.1, page 15

WORDS OF THE WEEK – May 4th-10th, 2009

The essence of the Lotus Sutra is the spirit of ’shakubuku’ – sharing the philosophy of Nichiren Buddhism with others*.
Let’s muster up the courage to refute those beliefs and tenets that obviously misguide people to unhappiness and suffering, and speak out the truth confidently and with conviction!
This is the great strength of the SGI. – Daisaku Ikeda
