It’s a minor miracle of a co-incidence, that two major cities of the USA, one the capital, AND the capital of Russia and the former USSR are all very close to Newcastle, the former “capital” of Northumberland, and are actually only about 20 miles apart!!!

New York, North Tyneside
Moscow, Cumbria (just left Northumberland for Alston)
Washington, UK
What does it all mean?
Nothing really. There are a lot more weird sounding places in Northumberland, the place where I grew up. Maybe I’ll compile a list. Well here’s a start:
Wideopen
Pity Me (over the water)
Bloody Bush Edge
Ulgham (pronounced Uffum)
Cambois (pronounced Cammas)
Newcastle Upon Tyne (pronounced The Toon)
Alnwick (pronounced Anick)
