Faith No More: Everything’s Ruined

Angel DustLet’s make one thing clear; I like this tune. I bought it after one ‘part’ hearing from memory when it was released. As it turned out, it’s the only track on the ‘influential’ LP ‘Angel Dust’ that I actually did like…

It popped in my head today so I’ve fished out this video from YouTube. I didn’t know there was a video. What do I know?

The guy has a cracking voice, the bass drums are superb, the guitars are harmonious and the tune is powerful yet meaningless apart from Everything’s Ruined.   Just like Classical music, the meaning of the song is in the juxtaposition of the notes and their relative tone and loudness.  The actual words could all be laahs and aahhs, it’d be just as powerful.  (I’m having this trouble currently with a track of my own, just three chords Emaj, Cmaj & Gmaj.  All words seem trash against it but the tune I sing is majestic! It starts off like Arnold Lane.)

The video matches this sentimentality exactly.  It’s a laugh. It’s daft, cheap and nasty.   It’s got no point.

Everything’s Ruined. Yeah.
