Random Posts Plugin Setup

I’ve integrated the Random Posts Wordpress Plugin to this website to force some of the myriad ramblings of mine to the front page.  Basically, I don’t want them buried for good as they arre all absolute works of genius… ;-)

It took a while to get it mated to the theme as there’s a fair bit of coding trial-and-error involved and a bit of code needs plonking in the theme.  The body text font is a bit small, but this is good as it visually separates old from new stuff.

Because I use caching, the single random post that’s selected will remain on-screen for all non-logged-in users for about half an hour when they visit the site domain.  I’m not certain if the extra spider indexing will harm or benefit my SEO, but I’m not bothered.  The important thing for me, at this time, is a bit of extra visibility for old postsings, some of which are excellent and others, well drivel, actually, but it’s what I felt like at that time.

Initially, I was after a Random Sticky Post feature, but none exists.  As it’s turned out, I’ve got what I wanted anyway by use of the plugin and virtue of caching.

Funny how things work out, innit?
