In the news today were two totally opposed news items on life and the human species’ power over life.
Primates ‘face extinction crisis’
It’s in the title really. Humans (a primate), are gobbling up all the world’s resources so that loads of primates will be extinct soon.
Firm claims first pet dog clones
In a delicious touch of double-irony, the South Koreans (who eat dog as do many Asian peoples), have cloned some woman’s dog to produce a batch of puppies for her.
So on the one hand we give and create life where none could exist before, and on the other hand, we take away life by making sure that there’s nowhere for it to exist!
Slightly off topic, but part of the double irony; if ever there was a competition for a pet and owner look-alike, this woman, Bernann McKinney, should take the prize.
