Thanks Moongold.
I'm not feeling particularly chipper currently as you probably guessed from the tone. As you say, it's a kind of emergence of old knowledge, soaked away so that the details are forgotten and all that remains is the feel. Then, in the Welsh tradition, we don't say "I feel sad", we say "...like a vanquished army from a forgotten past, like moss on a tree, hidden in an unknown forest".
This is exactly the same as a Star Trek episode where Picard is on a planet having fought an un-understandable foe who speaks in metaphor. Finally, he realises that his foe speaks in riddles "Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra" and peace is made between peoples although the former foe dies in a battle with a monster.
(I've just checked this out, and I didn't realise that the metaphores are actually those from an ancient Assyrian epic called The Epic of Gilgamesh.

As you say - synaptic memory connections indeed !

Nice Find Indeed.

I've managed to miss hearing any 'Nine Inch Nails' until just now but that is a fine song with fine visuals, and as always I like your synaptic memory connections very much - I read sagas, myths and legends way back too but missed Song of R.

I get a strong visual 'True Blood' http://tinyurl.com/5soa4q opening sequence flashback from the NIN visuals, just zeitgeist probably but distinctly similar in feel.

Both nicely done.
As one who does.
