Crawling Across Chaos and Time Without End

V2 Schneider – BowieI don’t know why Bowie titled it so; maybe it’s a tribute to the Kraftwerk dude. Whatever, it’s one of my all-time favourite intros and even though it’s lost some power compared to the “modern” sounds available now, it’s still a cracker and it could easily be re-done. The sax at the end is strangely apocalyptic… The whole video is a reminder about East-West posturing in Georgia, Poland, Czech Republic, Belarus between the USA and Russia.. This is a second posting of this. I thought I’d repost in response to hearing a German version of Heroes here on a Bowie fanatic’s site. Since then, and I’ve checked, there are two V2 Schneider’s on YouTube now, so the one above is 50% of the offerings! The version of Heroes below is by Apocalyptica with a dude called Till Lindemann growling away. Apocalyptica FeaturingTill Lindemann (Helden)Moonage Web Dream says that the original “Heroes” was done in German, and who am I to argue. Bowie always has been slightly off with regard to his art, which is the whole point, I think. This track, despite the fascist overtones (which Till professes is not his intentions), is absolutely great. The melody and pace are basically unchanged but the whole timbre is enhanced. The only omission is the flat pace throughout, whereas in Bowie’s original, there is a subtle increase in pace to emphasise the second chorus onwards, I think. Helden Liedtexte
