When the pictures were taken, it was nearly pitch dark outside!

The shots are in 2 columns below, taken at about 1 this morning.  Those on the left are “autoenhanced” using Irfanview as part of the batch resize operation before uploading to the web.  Those on the right are resized without any enhancement.

All shots are using time exposure on my Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ7, using a tripod sat on the bedroom window sill.  Timings were 15, 30 & 60 seconds.  The images are resized to be 1400 pixels wide.

What I particularly like is the ghostly, ethereal appearance which, if you didn’t know otherwise would’ve come from image processing or special lighting.  The yellow colour is not due to a sepia tinting process but purely distant street-lighting reflecting from the snow clouds coming down from the north last night.

I’ve been (and still am!) busy over the last few months moving house and otherwise making a new life for myself.  Despite this, I did find time to go a see an event that I never thought would happen

• since Williamson got hepatitis, simultaneously cured himself of drugs, got fed up with musical rejection and went to pursue a carreer in electronics.
• Iggy plodded on.

The World's Forgotten Boy

I never rejected the music.  It’s always been there at top.  A talisman for me, if you like.  I even got a friend to paint a picture for me which has hung proudly in my house!  Ha Ha.

Anyway, this is the first two tracks (Raw Power immediately followed by Search & Destroy) of the show on the 3rd May, 2010.  And it was loud – really, very loud.  It was like a pure homage for many people there.

It was recorded on my Panasonic Lumix TZ7 which performed very well sonically (i.e. no distortion despite the extreme loudness) and fairly well visually….

The trouble with the video was that I didn’t have time to “prime” the autofocus at it’s maximum zoom to the range of the stage.  Instead, the band shot on stage with no warning and then the autofocus kept getting fooled by all the hands in the air, etc.  Add to that the fact that I nearly got knocked over when “Search & Destroy” kicks off…..

Still, it’s still pretty good, and excellent in HD on full screen played through decent speakers or headphones!  Ab-so-fucking-loot-ly!

Strange Wistful Yearning

When the band finally left the stage, Iggy was last to leave and then popped out for a minute to thank everyone for being there.  I swear that he was almost in tears with the realisation, perhaps, that the end of this life was near and that he’d finally “made it” into some sort of acceptance.

…or something like that.  It’s hard to describe, but it certainly wasn’t a normal cheerio that I’ve seen before.

Dirt

More like the end of all the “Dirt” in his life.  I saw The Ig do this at the Newcastle Mayfair around about 1979 and it was one of the finest things I’ve ever seen – the tears were streaming down my face.

But at the end of that show, Iggy just finished like an old pro.  The end on the 3rd May was different, very much so.

Panasonic Lumix TZ7

Using my Panasonic Lumix TZ7 and it’s fantastic zoom and image stabilisation, and at low-ish light levels (dusk), I took the following pictures last night of the thinnest, slimmest, almost invisible moon that I’ve ever seen.  Just after the sun set, the bats were flying and the moon was ever-so-close to the sun.  On 12x zoom, and hand-held, the camera actually managed to get the moon as a sharp sliver of whiteness against the blue of the gloaming.

Lovely. (George the Dog also makes an appearance, which emphasises the darkness of the ground.)

Arnold Stang Dies

The voice of Top Cat, the excellent cartoon series of my childhood has died at a good old age.

He’s also in one of my favourite bits from the film “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.”  About half-way through the clip below he’s one of the two gas station attendants who witness and barely survive the destruction of the gas station by the truck driver.  I particularly like the phrase,

Hey Ray….   I think we’re gonna have to kill him.

…which we used to recite at school in some bizarre ritual as we’d mentally run through the whole script of the film. (Even now, phrases still pop into my mind from the film, which was under-rated and heavily cut many times probably because they tried to get every single comedy cliché and star of the day into it…)

Crawling Chaos, Sex Machine?

In essence, it’s a long list of weird photos; some disturbing, some funny, many thoughtful, not so many, dumb.  Flipping through the site, I came across this photo at the left on this page, which in some respects demonstrates to me the Buddhist concept of “The Interconnectedness of All Things”.  How else could I have found it?

The lyrics of the Crawling Chaos track “Sex Machine” are yet again coming to fruition.

Last week we had the welcome news that the gene code for some major cancers has been cracked (see Scientists crack ‘entire genetic code’ of cancer).  This is one aspect of the human condition – to be fit and healthy.

Another aspect of the human condition is to be sexy and to have sex.  To talk about sex and think about sex.  In fact, because unlike animals, which for the most part are tied to breeding cycles, we are sexual beings for most of our lives.  Some people will do anything for sex or to appear sexy, and some will try anything….

This picture of the sexualised doll with dildo hands is a case in point, and it exactly parallels some of our “Sex Machine” lyrics that we wrote all those years ago.  So apart from being “a laugh”, having a “driving rhythm” and a “fantastic guitar melody and solo”, the track “Sex Machine” is now all coming true.  Many critics, of course, missed all of that, but then…they would, if they’re shallow.

How prescient of us.

Panasonic Lumix TZ7

Following a cold, frosty night, when the early morning fog had lifted, I noticed that the air overhead was exceptionally clear, transparent, and un-disturbed.  This is readily apparent with the cropped aeroplane flying at over five miles up, where the engines and red markings on the tail are quite clear.

The pictures are taken using my Panasonic Lumix TZ7, all using automatic settings.  All overhead shots are using 12x zoom.  It’s quite remarkable what one can do with a hand-held camera these days!

Concluding Observations

Kevin’s is much like all the others we are sick of seeing.  The T&Cs are getting less and less informative and in size.  There are no contacts and it follows all the usual patterns of $1.90-ish shipping costs, the “as seen on” banners, the “comments are closed due to spam” bit, the chequebook artwork, the huge cheques from Google artworks, the happy, smiley family.

You name it.  It’s all there.

What is weird is that they’ve bothered trying to comment spam me!  I mean…. ME!  Are they stupid?  I can’t wait until they do Paul at WorkAtHomeTruth.com!  Now that will be fun!

I think I’ll leave the annoying comment in the post – just to pad it out, you understand?  No URLs though, ha ha!
