I’ve been busy. I posted the details of a wacky con on the Crawling Chaos website (shown above). In a nutshell, it appears to operate thus:

• User searches for music or other media
• User is presented with search results, some of which point to Black Box Access
• User clicks on link and is told that the required file was uploaded last week and has been downloaded ~19,000 times
• User immediately thinks “this is popular, I’ll have it!”
• User hands over email & financial details

After this I don’t know as obviously handing over that data to a bunch of crooks is just asking for trouble.
However, as if to highlight their very own scamminess, Black Box Access serve ads which go to websites from which it’s almost impossible to leave with continuous pop-ups and all the usual crap.

So beware. Tread softly young Luke. It’s a major privacy issue.

It (literally) means 3000 realms in a single moment of life.  This means that for any given moment your life is composed of everything; all thoughts, all history, all presents and all futures.  You only ‘sense’ things one at a time, yet they’re always there.

23. He joined the war.  His ship was originally called CVE-32.
24. The Lexington which blew up in the Coral Sea was originally called CV-2.
25. I’m going to Four Mile Beach soon.
26. What’s it all mean?

Four Mile Beach again

It means that we are all connected.  In many more ways than the 3000, we are all intimately connected both now, to the past and the future.  Sometimes the connections are obvious, sometimes not; but as sure as eggs are eggs all our lives are entangled, it’s a part of life.

The Buddha said “work hard for your own salvation” just before he died.  It means to take action for your own happiness.  Don’t rely on external factors like people, events or gods because you’ll always be dissatisfied.  Suffer what is and enjoy what is as if they’re the same.

Enjoy being a Castaway! Enjoy life.

Foetus Products

In preparation for our next release, Spookhouse, I’ve set up a proper shop to sell it!  Our intention is to sell everything ourselves via this sole outlet. (Click image for the UK shopping site.)

The announcement is on the Crawling Chaos website here.

Kicking off the shop I’ve reworked (…er…shouldn’t that be ‘am in the process of re-working?…) all tracks from the two previous CD issues.  Finally I’ve had a decent handle of the articles…

Some have been substantially changed which may upset the purists, my current modus operandi being to imagine myself back then using the current software and equipment I now have at my disposal, then to change the existing 2-track recordings to best fit this basic idea.  After all, they’re already in the digital domain – so I may as well try and make them something like how I/we wanted originally, but was thwarted by technology.

In tandem with this, I’ve whipped out some jam and hidden parts in tribute especially to Paul, Jeff & Garry, because this was the core of many creations that appear on those two releases and turned them into something dark and tragic, as that’s how I currently feel about their absence from the planet.

As Steve Jobs once said,

“Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.”

Close observers will spot the “new” tracks.  They are there to highlight our jollity, our bleakness, the tiny hidden gems of deftness in improvisational Jeff’s playing and Paul’s lyricism, the randomness of Gazza and the end that must come to us all.

All this stuff is competitively priced compared to the muffled output from the usual on-line stores.

Spookhouse

The Spookhouse design is currently being set.  Downloads from the CD will be available following the CD release.

Other Items

These will be released, mainly as download, for other artists wanting to contribute to to the Foetus Products collective sound resource.  This isn’t a joke.  We really mean it folks!

Technical

I’ve set it up using open-source software on the foetusproducts.co.uk domain.  All links are secure where they need to be using a SSL Certificate I bought from GoDaddy.com, as they were had a special offer going…!  It’s security level is the highest you can get (it uses a 2048 bit key), which means folks should have no qualms about their bank getting raided or whatever if they buy from us.

Users will have a choice of two financial transaction processors – PayPal and Google Checkout for which I’ve set up merchant accounts.  They’re ubiquitous and most people are familiar with their operation nowadays.  I thought about using Amazon, but they don’t currently process for digital items.

The reason that we’ve gone this route harks back to our (i.e. Crawling Chaos’s) independence of spirit – and because our returns will be on par to going the iTunes route, say, for distribution.  We lose about 10% commission in the transaction process compared to a lot more through online download stores.

I’ve just been adding a few scheduled postings into the Crawling Chaos website.  For those of a mysterious bent, I initially forgot to give a title to the post.  Now because of the way I’ve got permalinks set up on that site and because of the way that WordPress works with its defaults and because the post was the 666th made, the post got called:

Jesse Willms Ethics About Page Hacked

I got a auto-alert from a Scamraiders post from Justin Asking that a page on one of the plethora of Willms self-promotional websites has been tampered with – and sure enough it has!  See here for the original comment from Justin Asking.

Below is a screenshot of the hacked page, a brief perusal of the rest of the site shows no other tamperings….  Still.  It made me laugh, although having had this website and the Crawling Chaos website hacked by Turks, I know that personally, it’s not a lot of fun.  (I wonder if Willms will post about it and how long it’ll take to fix it…Probably got a lot on his plate, currently!)

Crawling Chaos Waqqaz Sounds Review

…and following on from the previous post, here’s a recently provided scan from Holly of a (now defunct) Sounds magazine (four star!) review of the vinyl LP, Waqqaz, by Crawling Chaos, back in June 1986, when I was in France.

Quoting Dave Henderson;

THE CRAWLING CHAOS ‘Waqqaz’ (Foetus Products F4) ****

AND CHAOS came back again.  Former Factory workers ex-eccentrics from the wild North East, The Crawling Chaos are still alive, being driven barmy by the ineptitude of their drum machine and turning in classic songs.

It’s a bumpy unpredictable road between the simple worlds of Der Plan, Throbbing Gristle, the Dr Who theme and the primal Factory sound, but all and sundry were fed into the Chaos cut price computer.  The result coughs and splutters with a truly odd musical catarrh.

Of course, in this case, the worst possible thing for me, is being on the same page as a Genesis review…

Smash Hits Review of Sex Machine by Red Starr

I’ve just found a website that scans all Smash Hits magazines and puts them online in their entirety!

Digging through, I found this review notice of the original release of Sex Machine back in 1980…

Red Starr (sic) states:

…is Crawling Chaos, whose “Sex Machine” is quite the fastest single I’ve heard in a while.  A close cousin is Fad Gadget with it’s ear for sharp lyrics, this hurtles along at breakneck pace with the main keyboard/synthesiser wraparound sound giving way to an excellent biting guitar break.  It’s also quite melodic despite the speed and is altogether recommended.

The highlight for me of all this, of course, is appearing on the same page as Wire….

My old friend Jeff recently died.

Waqqaz

The track now playing was one of the last pieces we did together.  It’s Jeff’s creation  and is one of my favourite Crawling Chaos tracks.  This is a pre-Waqqaz version from a cassette that has travelled round France, been in various glove compartments and cupboard floors.

I’ve taken it straight from cassette and it’s encoded at the maximum bitrate for MP3 files in Reaper for your enjoyment.  I’ve just used a noise gate set at -20dB and a bit of compression to follow in this extract.   For me, the mix is better than the final vinyl one despite the 12kHz frequency cut-off.

I remember him sitting cross-legged on the floor at Bebside for about a fortnight getting the various harmonies planned out.  My input was minimal and I just did a few block keyboard chords as instructed, to bulk out the end as well as the mixing on the guitars and the drums set-up.

The real work was within the complex interlocking guitar parts, of which there are at least six, all played by Jeff.  The only words I could think of came to me in a dream.

I ensured that they were on the penultimate bounce so that they couldn’t be removed.  I didn’t know why, at the time, I thought of them (apart from the corniness) or why I strove to ensure their longevity.  I instantly knew though, that this was Jeff’s finest work, for me, and I’ve listened many times to it since, mainly this cassette tape version.

But now, I know that one’s karma transcends space and time and that one can affect one’s karma in the distant past.

Currently, I am heavily affected by EYES, believe it or not.  I have chanted to change my karma both now, in the future, and in the past, and the benefits are immense.

So now I know why I woke up with those words in my head 25 springs ago.

It was so that I could write this piece about my old friend Jeff, and remember him and all the joint experiences that we had together  since we were 14.

Crawling Chaos, Sex Machine?

In essence, it’s a long list of weird photos; some disturbing, some funny, many thoughtful, not so many, dumb.  Flipping through the site, I came across this photo at the left on this page, which in some respects demonstrates to me the Buddhist concept of “The Interconnectedness of All Things”.  How else could I have found it?

The lyrics of the Crawling Chaos track “Sex Machine” are yet again coming to fruition.

Last week we had the welcome news that the gene code for some major cancers has been cracked (see Scientists crack ‘entire genetic code’ of cancer).  This is one aspect of the human condition – to be fit and healthy.

Another aspect of the human condition is to be sexy and to have sex.  To talk about sex and think about sex.  In fact, because unlike animals, which for the most part are tied to breeding cycles, we are sexual beings for most of our lives.  Some people will do anything for sex or to appear sexy, and some will try anything….

This picture of the sexualised doll with dildo hands is a case in point, and it exactly parallels some of our “Sex Machine” lyrics that we wrote all those years ago.  So apart from being “a laugh”, having a “driving rhythm” and a “fantastic guitar melody and solo”, the track “Sex Machine” is now all coming true.  Many critics, of course, missed all of that, but then…they would, if they’re shallow.

How prescient of us.
