Zyklon B Zombies – Never Too Leyte

A performance piece for Dionysian Heights. Part Two: Death

Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it – George Santayana

This is a revision of the earlier video with something that I consider more appropriate both to us at the time, the feel of the piece, and how I feel right now.  The music is the same and I’ve edited lots of WW2 video archive material to fit, where possible, to the sounds.
Recorded circa 1980-81
The music was created by Crawling Chaos as accompaniment to a performance piece by Zyclon B Zombies called Dionysian Heights, a morbid and gory on-stage blood fest with real offal and copious quantities of ketchup.

n.b. My dad missed The Battle of Leyte Gulf (some of the footage here) though he was at D-Day and then was part of the British Task Force  57 at Okinawa on his ship, HMS Slinger.  See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Pacific_Fleet
This piece is dedicated to my dad and folks like him

Liberty Bomber Today

The BBC have a little video piece today about a B17 Flying Fortress, The Liberty Belle, which is visiting the UK, today.  Within the piece is a link which I urge people to follow through to this page, http://www.libertyfoundation.org/photos.html

Please watch all the pictures through in the slide-show.  Anyone with any trace of empathy for fellow sentient beings or a sense of history and how past events have shaped our world cannot fail to be moved.

As now, people arm themselves as best they can when they go killing.  But there is something extra in the slideshow.  I can feel the awe that the young men experienced high above the clouds.  I can see the terror that must have existed inside those machines.  There are miraculous shots of barely flyable airplanes so it’s amazing that anyone was alive to fly the things.  We see the bombs drop and can sense the terror in the people below.  We see bombs drop onto airplanes below.

It’s all absolutely awful and absolutely awesome at the same time.

Links below are about the Memphis Belle and the film(s) made about it:
