Why is There No Juventus Gun Picture from Heysel?

Heysel and Beyond

Being justifiably upset by the events at the Heysel Stadium many years ago, the recent comments on a video I made about it … https://youtu.be/vxqjTZYV5do

… on the 25th anniversary of the awful event made me recall some TV reporting of what was reputedly  to be a Juventus “fan” brandishing a gun on the pitch.

This was well reported and many people remember this (see later link rferences).

However, I’ve trawled the internet looking for pictures of this person and after an hour’s work, have found absolutely nothing, which, given the nature of the event, the host of personal recollections and the ease with which information can be posted and retrieved from the web, is very strange indeed.

So why can’t I find a single picture of this?  Why?

If I recall correctly, the gunman was one of the Juventus owner’s family, or party.  Everyone seems to remember that after the event, the gun was found to be a starting pistol and that he was chastised by the family and grounded for a bit.  However, for anyone who has ever been threatened by a gunman, post event information is small cheer indeed!

Meanwhile:

  • Liverpool “fans” were convicted and later the town and club had a double hit of karmic retribution.
  • Football in the UK, after being banned from Europe, has cleaned up it’s act, (generally, with the odd notable exception), moved on and is moneyed up to the eyeballs.
  • Football in Italy is as partisan and violent as ever with corruption at every level of the sport that sees clubs dropped a league or two and opposing teams’ support afraid to visit the country.

So where is the Heysel gun (and man)?  Where are the pictures?  I’d like to know, if only to clarify my mind.  All I see are the fans on the pitch with iron bars and dead and dying fans under a wall.

Joe Fagan, the Liverpool manager, left the pitch, from what was planned to be his last match in charge, in tears.  I’m sure it was because he saw what had happened to his beautiful game.

Now, the xenophobes and unforgivers need to move on.  Justice was doubly served on Liverpool and a picture of the Juve “fan” with a gun would balance some memories of the time.  Juve people need to accept this or else the hate and violence that we see on the Italian terraces will never go, until they too, have their own karmic retribution.

There’s a lot that still needs to be done.

Murderous Robot Wars

Introduction

Robot Wars TV

Robot Wars TV

Professor Noel Sharkey from Sheffield, better known as one of the judges on the BBCTV show “Robot Wars” knows a thing or two about robots and artificial intelligence.  He’s made a plea for more debate about the use of robot planes in warfare. (see link)

BAE Mantis

BAE Mantis

He’s said, “An international debate is needed on the use of autonomous military robots.  A push toward more robotic technology used in warfare would put civilian life at grave risk.”

Watchkeeper Drone

Watchkeeper Drone

Actually, when you look at the statistics objectively and compare them to large conflicts, like WW1 for instance, a war that kicked off mechanised slaughter, then it’s bloomin’ obvious!

Slaughter

The BBC report says that,

Between January 2006 and April 2009, he estimated, 60 such “drone” attacks were carried out in Pakistan. While 14 al-Qaeda were killed, some 687 civilian deaths also occurred.

What this means is that 49 times as many civilians as combatants were killed!

This is truly horrendous.

WW1 Montage

WW1 Montage

Now lets look at the statistics from the dawn of mechanised slaughter, the war to end all wars, the war where the Last Tommy has just died….?

World War 1 Stats

In WW1, Germany invaded France, and the war was largely fought in Belgium and France.  On the battlefields and surrounding areas, many civilians died, as well as combatants, (source statistics here).  Here we go:

  • France:
    • Military Deaths = 1,397,800
    • Civilian Deaths = 300,000
  • Belgium:
    • Military Deaths = 58,637
    • Civilian Deaths = 62,000

Even including all countries involved, the statistics are stark.  Forget about the actual (huge) numbers – look at the proportions:

  • Total Military Deaths in WW1 = 9,721,937
  • Total Civilian Deaths in WW1  = 6,821,248

So overall, 0.7 civilians died for each soldier.

Terminator: Rise of the Machines

Terminator: Rise of the Machines

If we scale up the drone usage deaths into a global conflict sized scenario (and knowing the military, this is exactly what they’d do), and using the military deaths in WW1 as a starting point, how many civilians would die as the armchair pilots sought their foes?

Answer:

9,721,937 x 49 = 476,374,000

This is about the whole population of Europe!

Conclusion

Professor Starkey is completely correct.  If this is not a definition of the term putting civilian life at grave risk, then what is?

…and this is without attaching nuclear weapons to the planes…!!!

Of course, the effect of the usage of these machines and tactics is hardly likely to win over the Pakistani and Afghan tribesmen (the current targets) when every time one flies over a whole family is wiped out, is it?  So you have to ask yourselves,

If ‘The West’ is really trying to ‘win hearts and minds’ as they say, then what the fuck are they playing at?

in other words,

It looks like the real game is to continue the ‘war against terror’ to ensure that our people stay cowed and afraid and to justify the existence of the ‘military industrial complex’.

Just like the government in the film, “V for Vendetta”.

Normal Sperm in the BBC

Sore Testicles

Why Cyclists Should Wear Black Shorts

Why Cyclists Should Wear Black Shorts

“Oh dear!”, I thought, when I read this article on the BBC news today….

Elite cyclists ‘risk infertility’

Read the article.  Apparently…

“The Spanish study of top triathletes found those who cover more than 186 miles (300km) a week on their bikes have less than 4% normal looking sperm.”

Well I do a bit less than that, so naturally, I thought,

What is the normal amount of good sperms in my jism?

…..as you do, if you’re a bloke, which I am….

A Sperm

A Sperm

Fortunately, the article tells you, a bit lower down.  And it’s at this point, that you become shockingly aware of the piss-poor science and piss-poor interpretive reporting going on….

How so?

Quite simple, really.  They’ve completely buggered up any normal definition of the word,

NORMAL

What the article says is that if you are really fit, your good jism count goes down to ~5%.  This means 1 in 20 sperms are duff!  So for an elite cyclist, normally, most of their sperms are bad.

Come, Come.  You Can’t be Serious!

However, if you are a “normal” bloke, the “normal” amount of fit and healthy sperms is…wait for it… it’s coming…here it is…aaaahhhhh!

15-20%

So in other words, most men’s sperm is 80% duff.  Only 1 in 5 are good!  So for a non-cyclist, normally, most of their sperms are bad.  Exactly the same.

What Is Normal?

Born in 1972 in Uccle, Belgium, Axel is the son of five-time Tour de France champion Eddy Merckx.

Born in 1972 in Uccle, Belgium, Axel is the son of five-time Tour de France champion Eddy Merckx.

This is my point.  It’s normal to have most of my sperm completely incapable of fulfilling their duty.  A fit, elite,  cyclist, by definition, is continuously stressing their body beyond it’s limits, and when the body is stressed it’s secondary functions are put into standby.  It’s the same for women.

The point is the poor use of words.  In the article, the phrase abnormal sperm is used to describe poor viability sperm.  However, most sperm has poor viability!

So poor quality sperm is not abnormal – it’s normal!  It’s the good sperm that’s abnormal, so please get it right!

As an aside, we’ve evolved to have a proponderence of ‘inferior’ sperm.  They are actually necessary to our survival.  Their function is manifold – from the physical one of blocking the passage of later sperm to promote the success of the first individual’s mating, to providing the correct chemical environment for the passge of the more viable sperms.  There is a chemical and biological arms race going on at the microscopic level, about which we are only now just becoming aware.  It’s been happening for a billion years and no doubt will continue for a lot longer…

Research

Chris Boardman and his Son

Chris Boardman and his Son

The Spanish team has just looked at the jism.  They intend to do further research.  Might I suggest they do a statistical analysis of the fecundity of former professional cyclists as a starting point.  Start with “The Animal”, Eddy Merckx and his son Axel.  Then go and chat to Chris Boardman and his son and Bernard Hinault and his.  Go and see the cycling daughter of Britain’s greatest ever cyclist, Beryl Burton.

These people were at the very, very, top of their sport for years and had children.  There are many more like them.  Nuff said.

Clueless? Home Office Subverts Language

Computer Shopper Interview with Home Office

Dawinderpal Sahota at ‘Computer Shopper’ magazine, part of the Dennis Publishing organisation, has published a fascinating interview that the magazine had with a UK Home Office rep on the subject of the government’s policy towards tackling child abuse websites.

  • ‘Computer Shopper’ gave all questions in advance so that the Home Office had plenty of time to get coherent answers.
  • The full text of the Q&A interview that followed is here.  Home Office clueless: The transcript

ObsceneWhat is clear from reading it is that either our Home Office is completely clueless about rules and responsibilities, or, they feel so secure that on this subject (child porn and censorship), they can send the office tea-boy to the interview with a set of answers cobbled together in the pub over a lunch-time drinking session.

A salient comment on it all from a person who chose to remain anonymous is here.  It’s a very good analysis on the current law as it stands, compared to what people, inc HM Gov, think it means.  The two are not the same.

There’s a general, pervading sense, because it’s said so often, that child pornography is the same as child abuse. This is patently not so because even though photoshopping a child’s head onto a naked person’s body counts as child porn – it’s certainly not child abuse…!!

War on Terror

In a similar way, the huge hysteria generated by Jacqui Smith and her push on ‘terror’ as she seeks to deflect the ballooning and damaging sleaze and corrupt expense claims scandal away from herself has it’s own set of language subversions…

In today’s big news push (which I first mentioned a few days back), the BBC, for instance, has three news articles all about the same thing;

Reading these, my heart palpably beats faster and I feel so insecure. – angry actually (SP)

But it’s crap.   The even righter wing Tories are now calling for …

more action against extremists!

So you see, in one instant, the whole focus is shifting and becoming ever wider.  Now, they make us think that a terrorist is the same as an extremist…???

Let’s make one thing clear; extremist views are not illegal.  They are only called ‘extreme‘ because they differ from the norm.  Having extremist views can be seen as showing some disrespect for another being, but by the same token, anyone fighting against an unjust police state with draconian laws and powers of imprisonment, a government that’s disregarded the UN Declaration of Human Rights – anyone like that would be called an extremist by that government.

China is like that.  So is the UK.

So an extremist isn’t the same as a terrorist – and yet they seek to make it so!

Another word being subverted to the ‘terrorist’ cause is radical, or radicalised.  In the same articles above, we are urged to be on our guard against them….???

Er… Einstein’s ideas on relativity and the Photoelectric effect in 1903 were radical. Max Plank’s quantum theory was radical.  But they’re not terrorist!

Conclusion

The UK Government and Home Office isn’t clueless.  Far from it.  They feel so confident in their power that they can say and do anything without reproach – from gibberish interviews to torture, illegal detention and fiddled expenses.  In an article in last Sunday’s Observer, PM Gordon Brown said;

But today, not only the police and security and intelligence officers, and our armed forces, but also the emergency services, local councils, businesses, and community groups are involved in state-of-the-art civil contingency planning. Tens of thousands of men and women throughout Britain – from security guards to store managers – have now been trained and equipped to deal with an incident and know what to watch for as people go about their daily business in crowded places such as stations, airports, shopping centres and sports grounds.

This is not just about training and equipping professionals, however. I believe that the better we inform the public, the more vigilant the public will be.

  • Q. What’s the difference between being vigilant and being a vigilante?
  • A.  The “E”

And so the climate of fear ramps up…  Brown says above that he believes that these measures are necessary.  This is wholly the wrong word.  Belief applies to religion and gods etc, not to freedom or security.

  • Security is a relative concept, not a belief.
  • Freedom is a right, not a belief.

I don’t believe I have a right to freedom, I fucking well know it mate!

And that’s what it means to be British.

Georgia, the Pipelines and The Marx Brothers

My previous post, just before I went on a short break, warned that the Olympics might become a side-show in a widening chain of events.  This has turned out to be true.  My quotation from the Buddhist monk, Nichiren Daishonin, could now really have the word land exchanged for the more relevant world.

If the nation is destroyed and people’s homes are wiped out, then where can one flee for safety? If you care anything about your personal security, you should first of all pray for order and tranquillity throughout the four quarters of the land, should you not? – Nichiren Daishonin / On Establishing the Correct Teaching for the Peace of the Land – WND1, page 24

Nichiren was writing from his viewpoint in 13th Century Japan.  But the sentiment is exactly the same now.  If we really do care about our own (and others) personal security, it’s imperative that order and tranquillity exist across the whole world because of;

  • the immediacy of the connections between ourselves and others on the world
  • the widespread destructive effects of modern weaponry
  • the fact that in a smaller world as advanced in the first two points above, there really isn’t anywhere for anyone to flee.

The record-breaking Olympian swimmer, Michael Phelps, warranted a minute on the news as the last few days have been almost wholly concerned with events in Georgia – most of it about describing where it is and how we arrived at the current situation, for the vast majority of people who were completely clueless.

For most westerners, the countries of eastern Europe are a bit like Freedonia in the Marx Brother’s film, “Duck Soup”.  Hopefully the irony is not lost on some of them as the basic tenor of the film is a parody on power plays and how warfare cascades….

"All God's chillun got guns!"They got guns,
We got guns,
All God’s chillun got guns!
I’m gonna walk all over the battlefield,
‘Cause all God’s chillun got guns!

Georgia falls victim to pipeline politicsAll the former USSR western states now have a variety of different alliances, pro-Russia or pro-West.  The energy pipelines scuttle across them like veins on an old lady’s legs.

The mainstream media are really only concentrating on the Georgian ones, like here, say, although this page (large image below) http://www.theodora.com/pipelines/russia_former_soviet_union_pipelines.html does a good job of showing most of them.

A few mentions are made of places like Belarus and the Ukraine but are people aware of the relevance of these places?

russia_ukraine_belarus_baltic_republics_pipelines_map_t_1_.jpg

The news that the ultra-hypocritical George Bush wants to do humanitarian aid drops directly into Georgia is to be welcomed for the small amount of help that will be delivered by a single C17 Globemaster to the 100,000 displaced persons, but severely questioned about the true motives behind it.

The fact that Bush was the one sidling up to the nutty Georgian prime minister with arms while France and Germany locked together in a stand of unity and common sense should be remembered when consulting the history books for the possible effects of cascading treaties among Eastern European countries situated between two immense power blocs.

France and Germany are intensely aware of the potential.

The last time this sequence of events happened was The First World War which directly led to The Second World War.

This is a reminder.

Tyne Cott Cemetery, Belgium. 2002

Tyne Cott Cemetery, Belgium. 2002

It’s the biggest Commonwealth Cemetery in the world.  If the two superpowers clash this time, there won’t be any more cemeteries like this as there’ll be no-one to dig them.

Finally, what is Duck Soup?”

“Duck soup” is an American English slang phrase meaning something easy to do.

“Take two turkeys, one goose, four cabbages, but no duck, and mix them together. After one taste, you’ll duck soup for the rest of your life.” – Groucho Marx
