Introduction Spring, last year, was when I first stumbled upon Pacific WebWorks (PWW) and their nefarious schemes. That was when I happened upon Google Treasure Chest, one of their many scams. This then ballooned into a miasma of a web of crime which frankly astonished me. Then, across the globe, many people fought against the [...]

I woke up this morning ……and read two small passages, both written by Buddhists, one of which quotes one of “The Buddha’s” last works, the Lotus Sutra. What struck me, was that sometimes, this Buddhism that I do can get a bit confusing, and then suddenly – suddenly someone says something that brings everything right [...]

Arnold Stang Dies The voice of Top Cat, the excellent cartoon series of my childhood has died at a good old age. He’s also in one of my favourite bits from the film “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.” About half-way through the clip below he’s one of the two gas station attendants who [...]

Final preparations for Xmas dinner involved another trip to Wallace’s venison Farm on the Blackdown Hills for some Venison and Bison roasting joints. Across the main road is a National trust area which has fantastic views over Taunton Vale, as seen here! All pictures taken on a Panasonic Lumix TZ-7, although not all by me!

Following a cold, frosty night, when the early morning fog had lifted, I noticed that the air overhead was exceptionally clear, transparent, and un-disturbed. This is readily apparent with the cropped aeroplane flying at over five miles up, where the engines and red markings on the tail are quite clear. The pictures are taken using [...]

No Problem The towns of Workington and Cockermouth are now effectively isolated because all the bridges are down, washed away in the floods. However, they are ONLY bridges, and bridges can be made and rebuilt. The problem is the lack of communications for the towns and surrounding villages, which affects everything, not least the provision [...]

Actor Edward Woodward Dies I’m quite sad about today’s news, because the show Callan formed a key part of my life, in a way, when I was growing up. The dystopian genre owes a lot to the show. Right from it’s haunting opening title sequence that had instant echoes of Orson Welles’ Third Man, to [...]

This week, I’ve become aware of three excellent initiatives that are focussing people’s energies, creativity, and cash(!) into positive solutions to the global energy crisis. It just shows what can be done – and these projects are not difficult or hard to creative creatures like ourselves. Big Mirrors in the Desert This is a $400billion [...]

How Bad was Thatcher’s Recession compared to the Current Economic Slump? Q. Well, how would you find out, exactly? A. Surprisingly easily. This graph here compares historical economic slumps with the current one, on a month by month basis. It’s taken from the “National Institute of Economic and Social Research” (NIESR) website here. Notionally, it’s [...]
