Disappearing Bees? Re-appearing Karma

Neonicotinoid pesticides and Colony Collapse Disorder

The Register reports on what seems to be a pretty good study from some guys at Stirling and Lancaster Universities in the UK.  The “boffin-years” worked (as The Register puts it) by them and another French team now have very good proof that it’s a group of pesticides, very lethal to insects but no-so-bad for mammals (like us) that are the cause of:

  • 85% reduction in queen (and thus new hive) production
  • 10% smaller hives
  • Disorientated bees – the bees can’t find their hive and die…

What Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) means for us, as humans, can be found in this information on bee economics which details a few major crops recently hit by declining bee numbers.  Further, this is a list of essential plants which are bee pollinated.  The ones which are marked as “Essential – can’t do without bees” are these highly important cash crops:

  • Squash (plant), Pumpkin, Gourd, Marrow, Zuchini Cucurbita spp. Honey bees, Squash bees, Bumblebees, Solitary bees
  • Cantaloupe, Melon Cucumis melo L. Honey bees, Squash bees, Bumblebees, Solitary bees (Ceratina spp.)
  • American Pawpaw Asimina triloba Carrion Flies, Dung Flies
  • Brazil nut Bertholletia excelsa Bumblebees, Orchid bees (Euglossini), Carpenter bees
  • Kiwifruit Actinidia deliciosa Honey bees, Bumblebees, Solitary bees
  • Atemoya, Cherimoya, Custard apple Annona squamosa Nitidulid Beetles
  • Watermelon Citrullus lanatus Honey bees, Bumblebees, Solitary bees
  • Passion fruit. Maracuja Passiflora edulis Carpenter bees, Solitary bees, Bumblebees,
  • Macadamia Macadamia ternifolia Honey bees, Stingless bees (Trigona carbonaria), Solitary bees (Homalictus spp.), Wasps,Butterflies
  • Sapodilla Manikara zapotilla Thrips
  • Cocoa Theobroma cacao Midges
  • Rowanberry Sorbus aucuparia Honey bees, Solitary bees, Bumblebees, Hover flies
  • Vanilla Vanilla planifolia, Vanilla pompona Solitary bees

Reasons, Nazis and Jews – What are Neonicotinoid Pesticides?

IG Farben

There are many candidates for CCD and pesticides are just one possible or contributory factor.  Things like bee predators, mites, electromagnetic radiation, loss of habitat…. it’s quite a long list.

However, the two studies above seem to be pretty secure controlled studies that looked at one factor (the neonicotinoid pesticides), examining the bees in isolation both with and without the expected non-lethal local dosage of the chemicals so as to eliminate the other possible causes.

Wikipedia lists the major neonicotinoid pesticides, and below I match them to their inventor and/or current manufacturer:

  • Acetamiprid – Aventis (French conglomerate inc. Rhône-Poulenc, Hoechst and others)
  • Clothianidin – Bayer, Takeda
  • Dinotefuran – Mitsui
  • Imidacloprid (the most widely used insecticide in the world) – Bayer
  • Nitenpyram – Novartis (formed from Zeneca, Ciba-Geigy, Sandoz)
  • Thiacloprid – Bayer
  • Thiamethoxam- Bayer, Syngenta (another entity formed from Zeneca, Ciba-Geigy, Sandoz)

Bayer

What’s interesting from this list is how often Bayer pops up in the neonicotinoid (a neuro-toxin) story.

It famously made Zyklon B, which made a poison gas and was one of the main methods of murdering Jews and others by the Nazis during WW2.  It did this under the conglomerate business name of IG Farben which was broken up post war by the allies into the original business entities, Bayer being one, and it’s still around now!

A Bayer (IG Farben) boss, Fritz ter Meer, served 7 years post WW2 for his crimes and then was immediately made supervisory board chairman of Bayer.  His crimes included designing a satellite concentration camp to Auschwitz.  Some Nazi industrialists & businessmen were executed, like Bruno Tesch.  Several other convicted Nazi War Criminals got high-powered jobs following their release, just like ter Meer.

Karmic Retribution

What I see as a reason for the bee decline ultimately relates to our overall karma.

It is not retribution against individuals directly.  The bad karma affects us all, now, because we have continued to allow processes to continue which harm ourselves and our environment.  The disappearing bees are just one manifestation of this.

Ter Meer got his nice job back at Bayer, probably because he was the best person to do it, especially at this critical period of rebuilding Germany.  We could say that he continued his life’s work of creating death by chemicals (which I’ve cunningly yet disingenuously alluded to in order to attract your attention!), but it must be remembered that alongside Zyklon B, the same businesses created many products which are essential to our productive farms and lifestyles.  Aspirin, for instance.  Fertilisers as another.

In fact, Fritz Haber, whose academic work was enthusiastically taken up at IG Farben and others, demonstrates the dichotomy of human nature by inventing chemical warfare while simultaneously inventing a process to fix nitrogen from the air to make fertiliser (or explosive, since it’s the same thing).  One gives life benefit, one removes it completely.  As it says on Wikipedia,

“The food base of half of the current world population is based on the Haber-Bosch process”

Haber’s karmic retribution was swift and fast.  Whether he knew or felt it is beside the point. It happened.

  • His wife shot herself because of her guilt over his personal supervision at the 1st gas release on the Western Front.
  • Their son who found her, was so appalled by this and his father’s actions, that he committed suicide in 1946 (like survivor guilt, I suppose.).
  • Haber was Jewish, rewarded by the Nazis who used his gas Zyklon A, developed into Zyklon B to murder Jews and others during the holocaust.
  • Many members of Haber’s extended family were killed in the Holocaust.

Direct Karmic Attention

But now we can easily see, that by continuing the bad processes, by continuing the bad ideas, by continuing the bad attitudes of the past, the actions of the past have started to hit us all full in the face.

Bees are just part of it.

Our disjointed energy & food policies of “live today, pay tomorrow” are just larger examples of the wider issue.

To fully understand how we should proceed in our lives and how we interact with others and our environment, we need look no further than some key Buddhist principles, laid out before us a very long time ago by Siddhārtha Gautama.  He said:

  1. right view,
  2. right intention,
  3. right speech,
  4. right action,
  5. right livelihood,
  6. right effort,
  7. right mindfulness,
  8. right concentration.

This is called The Noble Eightfold Path, and if we all paid attention to it and acted sincerely with it, then we’d all be a lot better off.

Auschwitz Architectural Plans Put On Display In Berlin

Pope visits Auschwitz

Pope visits Auschwitz

In a weird co-incidence that I missed at the time, I’ve just found that the plans for the Auschwitz death camp were put on  display during my Austrian visit earlier this year.   This visit very soon prompted my outburst on the pontificating nutty bishop, Richard Williamson (see The Face of Evil from 20 Feb 2009), especially considering I’d just visited two Jewish cemeteries in Eisenstadt….   (also see Jill’s posting on the area and elsewhere here.)

A few months before this, the plans had been ‘found’ in a Berlin flat and were then bought by the Bild newspaper group as the German State said they were too expensive.

We have to hope that these are authentic because they add crushing evidence against the Holocaust deniers, including the now more ‘accepting’ nutty bishop.

This week, one of the last fully signed-up and openly unrepentant Nazis died (see Secrets hope as Hitler aide dies).  Apparently he’s left his memoirs which will add new substance to the overall Nazi guilt, especially towards Hitler.  Again, if this is true, it’ll be a wonderful addition to our documented history.

However, it’s a sad indictment on human nature that the personal accounts of 100′s of thousands who witnessed events count for naught…?  Funny that, innit?

One of the Aushwitz Plans

One of the Aushwitz Plans

Bild itself, after the initial display of the Auschwitz plans in it’s offices,  released some pictures and information on it’s website in August.

See English Translation and Original Webpage.  The one that caught my eye is this one at left.

Near the top is a scribble in green ink which has been identified as written in the hand of Himmler, architect of the final solution and a former chicken farmer, famous for selectively breeding white chickens.

This small scribble further implicates the chief Nazis and if it’s all true, shows that their plans for domination and genocide were not thought of in an ad-hoc manner, but were systematically planned many years before.   Only the methods changed as the kill volume increased.

As Bild says:

Remarkable about the plan, which was commissioned by the “construction management of the Waffen SS and police in order, is something else: it proves once again that the mass-production mass murder of European Jews not only with the so-called Wannsee Conference in January 1942 it was decided, but much earlier.

Let’s all say Sorry

  • The pope says sorry for getting it wrong over the holocaust and the nutty bishop
  • The bankers say sorry for getting it wrong with their greedy decisions that lead to the current economic crisis
  • Cricket captains say sorry for losing some games
  • US car maker bosses say sorry for being crap
  • UK Politicians say sorry for being greedy and setting up an expenses system that allows them to be greedy
  • US presidents say sorry for accidentally bombing civilians
  • IRA says sorry for past bombings of civilians

How long should I make this list?

Q.  Does it make it alright if you do great hurt and harm – and then say sorry?

A.  The answer, I think, depends on your future actions from this moment forward.

If we apologise for a past mistake (and everyone makes mistakes – we are all human), the believability of our statement of sorrow will probably be judged on the likelihood of a repeat ‘mistake’.  That is the power of ‘Reason’ and the only reasonable criterion on which to judge someone’s contriteness.  In other words, is my ‘Cause’ believable?  What ‘Effect’ do I want and is it honourable? … … … it’s a trust thing.

PopeSo do I believe the Pope?  Yes I do, actually, although I can see there’s an agenda at work.  Same for the IRA.

RBSBankers – no.  Car makers – no, they’ve had plenty warnings from intelligent people like myself that their business models were un-sustainable.  There’s the proof.  It’s in the phrase.

UK Politicians on expenses – no, probably.  It’ll take a generation to clear this mess up.

Cricketers and other sportsmen – they shouldn’t need to apologise – it’s only a game mate.

DroneUS Presidents (inc Obama) and any other person who thinks it’s okay to bomb civilians as acceptable ‘collateral damage’ – no way.  This is a continuing abomination against mankind.  Anyone who does this does not have a just cause in the slightest.

suicide car bombSo this includes Obama and Bush, Blair and Brown, all the mad Muslims and their sacrificial bombers and all the mad Jews with their denial of a right to life for an indigenous population.  The continuing excesses and excuses for the deaths, maimings and oppressions of ordinary people in the pursuit of ‘the enemy’ or ‘freedom for…’ or for any ’cause’, is in no way justifiable.  To apologise after each event is pathetic and just proves the inherent weakness of the cause.

There really has to be a better way.

Here’s what Nichiren Daishonin said, many years ago:

nichiren…if the minds of living beings are impure, their land is also impure, but if their minds are pure, so is their land. There are not two lands, pure or impure in themselves. The difference lies solely in the good or evil of our minds. – On Attaining Buddhahood in This Lifetime – The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin, Volume 1, page 4

Israel Phosphorus BombIn this context Nichiren is saying that the law of Cause and Effect works at a personal level which spreads out to encompass the whole environment in which we dwell. He’s saying that the hellish circumstances in the Middle East, Palestine, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, the US, the UK, Afghanistan, Israel and everywhere blighted by devilment, are all derived from the actions of people.  Without people there would be just earth.

It’s the actions which are derived from the causes that people make that bring the hell to these lands.

Israel Phosphorus BombThis means that the causes that bring the bombs to Baghdad are the same as those that bring sleaze to Britain.  In the former, morally bankrupt US & UK politicians and morally bankrupt Muslim leaders using their religion as a shield for oppression, battle it out in the streets of Iraq, Pakistan and elsewhere.  In the UK, the actions of the same morally bankrupt politicians are entwined with their brothers in business, like ivy sucking the juice from the tree of state, and are now both exposed for what they are – greedy children caught with too many sweets in the playground.

They should all, as Nichiren implies, “think pure”, and the country and all we interact with, will be pure.

It’s the only way.

It’s Now Illegal to Take Rememberance Day Photographs

A little realised consequence of Bush’s ‘war on terror’ and the ramping up of common hysteria across the English speaking western world is, bizarrely, that it’s now illegal to take pictures of people commemorating, in a patriotic symbolic way, the lives and deaths of the millions who’ve strived to keep us free!

Q. How Can This be Possible in  Free Society?

Illegal Photograph

A. Simple.

Section 76 of the Terrorism Act, 2008, introduced by our freedom-loving government on 16 Feb 2009.

This law has been brought in by a former economics teacher who gets confused about allowable expenses to fulfil her job.

Now lets see the actual text of the law which allows bestial pictures of man’s inhumanity in preference to pictures of heroes protecting our humanity.

It can be read in it’s official entirety here:

76 Offences relating to information about members of armed forces etc

(1) After section 58 of the Terrorism Act 2000 (collection of information) insert—

58A Eliciting, publishing or communicating information about members of armed forces etc

(1) A person commits an offence who—

(a) elicits or attempts to elicit information about an individual who is or has been—

(i) a member of Her Majesty’s forces,

(ii) a member of any of the intelligence services, or

(iii) a constable,

which is of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism, or

(b) publishes or communicates any such information.

(2) It is a defence for a person charged with an offence under this section to prove that they had a reasonable excuse for their action.

(3) A person guilty of an offence under this section is liable—

(a) on conviction on indictment, to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 10 years or to a fine, or to both;

(b) on summary conviction—

(i) in England and Wales or Scotland, to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months or to a fine not exceeding the statutory maximum, or to both;

(ii) in Northern Ireland, to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 6 months or to a fine not exceeding the statutory maximum, or to both.

(4) In this section “the intelligence services” means the Security Service, the Secret Intelligence Service and GCHQ (within the meaning of section 3 of the Intelligence Services Act 1994 (c. 13)).

(5) Schedule 8A to this Act contains supplementary provisions relating to the offence under this section..

(2) In the application of section 58A in England and Wales in relation to an offence committed before the commencement of section 154(1) of the Criminal Justice Act 2003 (c. 44) the reference in subsection (3)(b)(i) to 12 months is to be read as a reference to 6 months.

(3) In section 118 of the Terrorism Act 2000 (c. 11) (defences), in subsection (5)(a) after “58,” insert “58A,”.

(4) After Schedule 8 to the Terrorism Act 2000 insert the Schedule set out in Schedule 8 to this Act.

Now, after wading through this bollox, the key bit is 58a up to sub-section (5) which means that;

It’s an offence to gather information about a member of the police and other governmental forces, serving and non-serving!  “Information” means everything, which naturally includes taking photographs.

Furthermore, you have to have a “reasonable excuse” to save being arrested, and the maximum penalty for not having a reasonable excuse is 10 years jail.  The bollox does not even mention the usual government sweetener that “proper safeguards are in place to ensure fair bollox and safe bollox etc”.  It’s gone so far now that they think (and do) get away with murder, illegal imprisonment, bombing of civilians etc.

I suggest, although it’s not been tested yet, that a reasonable excuse in a free society, is “because I felt like it”.  Here’s a scenario:

In Whitley Bay, Tyne & Wear, is a street, Whitley Road that runs parallel to the Sea Front.  To get to the Rex Hotel on the sea front I could choose North Parade or South Parade out of the many options.  Let’s say I go down North Parade.

  • Q. Why go down North Parade?
  • A. “Because I felt like it!”
AP photo of gun-toting British Police from: POLICE INSPECTOR BLOG

AP photo of gun-toting British Police

Now suppose I had a camera and was impressed by the late Victorian and Edwardian buildings and the impressive British Police Sergeant upholding the law.

As it now stands I could be arrested and locked up for 10 years.

  • Q. What if I’d gone down South Parade?
  • A. It depends if there’s a copper there, really!

But in both cases I would be doing what I’d be doing “because I felt like it!”

And that’s the trouble with this stupid, stupid law, enacted by a government devoid of common sense.

Legal Photograph

Legal Photograph

It opens up a free path to a society like this photo, where the man being killed did far, far less than take a photograph.  He was a man born in the wrong place, that’s all.  The people at top are commemorating a struggle to free the world of acts like this and ensure it ‘never happens again’.  Now I need a ‘proper reason’ to go there and photograph them.

And the ultimate irony, of course, given that the police have direct control over who they arrest, is it’s also illegal to photograph a policeman beating up an innocent! But if I photograph a person shooting someone, like here, that’s okay.

It really is a police state.  The actual police, derived from our citizenry to ‘uphold the law’, unfortunately,  are asked to deal with this crap – I see it in their eyes sometimes, when they’re finished dealing with the piss-heads and dregs of society.  And with a morally bankrupt home office and financial system, what chance for fairness?  See the acquiescent uniformed people in the background watching these people die in the photograph?  How many times have we seen this happen since WW2?

That’s the future unless we fight to stop it.

So far, no-one has been arrested for the ‘offence’ in Trafalgar Square or outside Buckingham Palace yet.  But let’s see someone taking pictures outside Whitehall or the Admiralty or any air-base in the country frequented by the anoraked airplane-spotters?  What hope on Fairford Open Day?
