Automatic Metric: Windows 7 Laptop Will Only Connect to Huawei E5372 on UK Three Network, OR the Wired Home Network
Windows 8 Computers Work Fine Though!
Problem link is shown in red
Automatic Metric is the place to be!
I have two networks essentially:
The “normal” wired network (gigabyte ethernet) that links all computers and printers through the Cisco Router.
The temporary mobile network that allows the PCs to connect to the internet while we are in temporary accommodation. It’s a Huawei E5372.
After setting up WiFi on the PCs, access to the Ethernet network disappeared – but only for the Windows 7 computer!!!
This meant that file transfers, backup etc between the machines, ceased, as well as access to the wired printer. The printer worked fine when connected through its USB connection. It has no WiFi.
In the same way, disconnecting the wireless enabled connectivity to the wired home network (Ethernet).
I searched and many forums had similar “fixes”, none of which worked. e.g.
Remove IPv6 leaving just IPv4 on the network adapters.
Remove network devices completely and re-install.
Try new or updated drivers.
Reboot each time.
However, two very small items appeared and worked for me!! They are network settings, deeply buried and that I’ve never set before.
It’s the same in both Win 7 & 8. Maybe even Vista, but as we know, Vista Means Death. I did two places that got the Win7 machine to connect to the web through the Mobile WiFi dongle and to the home, wired and routed, network.
Adapters and Bindings
So Adapters and Bindings…
Network Adapters And Bindings (as seen in Win8)
Network and Sharing Center
Change Adapter Settings
Advanced on the menu. (Alt+N)
Adapters and Bindings tab
Set WiFi at the top
Oh Woe Is Me Again!
At this point, connectivity was still not restored, but it was an interesting setting, totally hidden in Win8!
And Automatic Metric…
This is the killer setting that worked!!! You need to do this twice:
once for the Wireless network adapter
and again for the wired Ethernet adapter
Network and Sharing Center
Network Adapter Wireless (Win 7)
Click the first adapter, the one I need windows to use first. i.e. The Wireless adapter.
Scroll down to “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and select it.
Uncheck Automatic Metric and put a low number (say 1) in the “Interface Metric” box
Click OK to save the settings changes.
Now do the second, Ethernet adapter. Follow the previous method. However, this time,
Network Adapter Ethernet (Win 7)
Uncheck Automatic Metric and put a high number (say 5000) in the “Interface Metric” box
Click OK to save the settings changes.
One commenter on the forum I saw (link to be done) said that just setting the order to 1,2,3 etc wasn’t sufficient. Setting a large gap between interface metrics did the trick, which is what I did.
What Is Automatic/Interface Metric?
Well, you can do this search, or probably the best answer comes from Microsoft, here.
It sets the priority of network interface access, lowest number first, on an individual machine.
In my case, weirdly, the Windows 8 machines had no difficulty. The single Windows 7 laptop fell over and caused me immense hair loss until I stumbled across the settings which I have never, ever touched in 17 years of computing and the web!
The lowest common denominator mentality is alive and well in Glorious Britain. “Most people” (according to a man-in-the-street soundbite on the BBC News yesterday, so it must be true) now think benefit scroungers are the ruin of the nation and treated like dogs. Truly – the news article used this man to justify the April 1st cuts.
Also, at the last count, over 58,000 would be quite happy for the couple in this screenshot to be strung up, bashed to death in prison, hung drawn and quartered, dumped in the streets of Derby – you get the idea.
Deeply Disturbing Doubts
But this looks really bad to me.
Q. Oh! How so? You saw the telly last night, didn’t you?
Well actually, that’s part of the point.
How is it that just a few hours after the three convictions for parents Mick and Mairead Philpott, and their friend Paul Mosley, how is it that three main TV channels are running in-depth full length investigations into the three and the deaths?
How is it they all have recorded interviews with witnesses and others that knew the threesome?
How is it that the police, weeks ago, released secretly recorded audio of the threesome while the trial was in progress?
How is it that the Daily Mail ties the child deaths and lifestyles of the threesome to the benefit scrounging ethos of the recently introduced welfare cuts?
I’ve Seen It All Before
The media hysteria and manipulation of facts we’ve all seen before. How do the 58k Facebook lynch mob so easily forget this?
Daily Mail Headline Change After Vile Benefits Murder Comments Backlash
Like the cowards that the Daily Mail is, it punches up nasty headlines to get the sales, gets a backlash, then can’t stand by its own words – so changes them. Here’s how:
Initial Headline and URL
DM Initial Welfare Headline
The URL for this page is http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2303120/Mick-Philpott-vile-product-Welfare-UK-Derby-man-bred-17-babies-milk-benefits-GUILTY-killing-six.html- but just try clicking it!
You’ll find that you are redirected to a wholly different page, similarly designed but with a different headline. Click Here to try. The original page that you should go to is on the right.
Redirected page with New Headline

If you clicked the link you’ll be taken here, http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2303120/Mick-Philpott-Judge-hears-good-father-awaits-sentencing-killing-SIX-children-house-blaze.html which looks like this image on the left.
But let’s thank goodness that Facebook wasn’t around in 2002 so that dishy doll psychos like Michelle Keegan couldn’t spill their vile venom under the disguise of public comment. She now has a more recent one saying “This cunt needs hanging share if you agree”
Obviously. I’m a Buddhist.
Also obviously, the man as presented and as I see him, and the others likewise, are the pits. But this does not deserve a witch hunt with thousands up and down the country baying for their private parts to be burnt in oil. Those doing so should better beware.
Faulty Convictions Abound
Because British justice has a long running habit of throwing curved balls. For the last few decades we’ve seen a continuous stream of high profile murders and atrocities, where;
Philpott et al certainly appear as scum, guilty of the deaths of their children.
But give it time. The spotlight glare into which the case has been placed coupled to the hysterical benefit-loaded media commentary give good grounds for a flawed judicial process.
At the time of Timothy Evans conviction, a similar media frenzy was in place.
Similarly for the Birmingham Pub (not) Bombers
and Judith Ward the M62 (not) bomber
All of these (and more) have had long drawn out media frenzies where the hang ’em and flog ’em brigade appeared, just as now, like a syphilis from the sewers of unclean thoughts. They should be better than that, better than a killer.
Folks should learn from history. Getting hot and bothered now will not resurrect the dead children.
Embarrassment is not it though. The real reason is our discovery of Straw & Blair’s hypocritical dealings over wars and torture, kidnap and illegal detention without trial, things that Straw’s government, and now our own coalition one, seek to hide. That’s a deep guilt.
Was it guilt over the knowledge that as he was the head of an unaccountable web of spies, they were doing everything that any free democratic nation would naturally think abhorrent?
That’s the special relationship for ya! Straw brought in the US-UK one-sided extradition agreement in 2003. The following yearhe and Blair were found out to have started the war in Iraq on false pretences. There then followed the endless investigations that dragged on for so long that folks forgot what they were about.
A collusion between the military, the law and politics from the establishment, designed to legally obfuscate by the dreary analysis of the minutiae of the webs of illegality they’d hatched?
We now find out, in the same year, 2004, that Straw and Blair were (supposedly) in government, Fatima Bouchar and her husband, Abdel Hakim Belhaj were captured, bound in gaffa tape (her eyelid bound open for 17 hours during this process), kidnapped and transported to a foreign power (Libya) where they were tortured and imprisoned for seven years.
Straw said he knew nothing, so what exactly was he paid for? Was he a stooge, a calm reassuring personae, quietly acquiescing to misdeeds on the grandest of scales in exchange for lifelong protection and a nice pension?
Abdel is now in the ruling government of Libya, having fought and beaten Gaddhafi, with The West’s help, let’s not forget….
Cover Up Illegal Government Work by Invoking Secret Trials, “in the national interest”!
Killer Drone Aircraft
It’s all true. Our own (and the US) secret services kidnapped and transported innocents from our own and foreign soils to foreign powers. This was all done without the intervention of a judge, without court orders and in many cases (those in Guantanamo Bay for instance), without any immediate or subsequent trial. They’re still doing it!
Bush, Cheney, Obama, Blair – their handiwork – it is estimated that >3ooo civilians have been killed by drones
The only difference between the recent actions of Jack Straw, Tony Blair, Gordon Brown, David Blunket, Teresa May, Ken Clarke & David Cameron, and the historical actions of Joseph Stalin, Chairman Mao and Adolf Hitler are that in the former, there’s been no trial and the people are still alive, and in the latter there were usually show or peremptory trials usually followed by immediate execution.
Though life is precious, today’s innocents (innocent unless proven guilty, remember) may have at times wished they were dead.
The targets have no chance to surrender, and the Afghan government has raised concerns. The drone strikes are dubbed ”Kill TV” or ”Taliban TV” because soldiers watch live video feeds of bombs and missiles detonating, with one source admitting it is uncomfortable viewing: ”You can see everything.”
Because the real devilish forces, whereby a supposedly civilised country like the United Kingdom can kidnap and torture with impunity, still exist. Pregnant Fatima Bouchar was not a terrorist and nor was her husband. Their terrifying ordeal at the hands of our secret service stands testament to that.
These are the real devils in our midst. They are the real terrorists. Under false pretexts they continue to bomb civilians with drones and kidnap and torture those they can’t kill. Though from different political persuasions, successive governments draft laws cover up the previous one’s actions.
What an evil nasty bunch they are. Cameron and his crowing cohorts are just the latest in a long line.
MPs and judges can retire to fully indexed-linked pensions, unlike the rest of the public sector workers who have been recently brutalised and scape-goated in the press for the thieving behaviour of gambling banker-politicians.
MPs and judges are protected from harm by the very secret services they’ve steered and governed while the rest of us are made
to feel fear at home, where none exists
to feel loathed abroad, when we have done nothing
All due to the evil machinations of these few folk.
The Real Reason for Secret Trials and Internet Censorship
Question: Why Pictures of Drones and Dead Innocents, Yet not many Kidnaps?
A. Simple. It’s the same mentality of person that sends in the drones to kill innocents as kidnaps innocents. In fact, it’s the same people. They stand there smiling on our TVs, in suits, with the appropriate amount of gravitas dependant on the situation.
The real devils in our midst. The real terrorists.
A few days ago I got hacked. I quickly ripped out a heap of dodgy files left by the hackers but for some days now, Firefox, my browser, while viewing pages on this website, has been saying that it’s “downloading data from tructuyenso.vn… “.
This, of course, was not actually happening, as I’ve put the blockers on the whole of Vietnam using .htaccess! The reason for this is that initially, tructuyenso wasn’t the only site appearing in the progress tip – there was another which lasted until I got rid of the various files dumped on my website. This is how:
<Limit GET POST>
deny from 22.214.171.124/8
allow from all
However, the call was still being made from somewhere on my site as the progress indicator wouldn’t stop….
A search for the string “tructuyenso.vn” turned up nothing in the files on my website using my website host’s file manager. (In the end, this was my failing and I will not rely on the thing again!)
A search through my database also turned up zero.
TCPView is a download from Sysinternals.com (now Microsoft!) that shows the various net connections being made to one’s PC from everywhere. This immediately showed that as soon as the main strangelyperfect.tv website (not the backend WordPress admin area), fired up in Firefox, as many as 7 connections were simultaneously made to 126.96.36.199…… This is the IP address that holds tructuyenso.vn, plus 11 other domains, some of which I’d seen flash through the progress bar.
Even when closed by TCPView, the connections would immediately start up again to the same IP address, 188.8.131.52 (manually closing strangelyperfect.tv stopped the connections).
I had of course previously changed my FTP, mySQL databaase and site management passwords, but the link at the bottom to a Website malware & blacklist scan (Sucuri) was the killer! On visiting Sucuri, it instantly said that I was acting as a host for malware and gave the offending results, for free! (Of course, I wasn’t hosting malware – just that it gave an indication that I was and hence the slowness of the site to load as it tried and failed to download shite my way from Vietnam)
Checking the source code for my homepage (which in retrospect I should have done first!!) threw up “tructuyenso.vn” right at the very bottom. This is the code as it was when I checked:
<a href="http://tructuyenso.vn" title="Quang cao truc tuyen | Ban hang truc tuyen | Dien dan quang cao truc tuyen" > Quang cao truc tuyen</a>
<iframe marginWidth="0" marginHeight="0" frameBorder="0" width="0" height="0" bottommargin="0" rightmargin="0" leftmargin="0" topmargin="0" nosize scrolling="no" src="http://tructuyenso.vn/"></iframe>
This was then easily traced to the footer.php file in my theme, Suffusion.
It was simply stripped out and the website then worked fine….. but to be sure, I have downloaded then checked the footer file in a fresh theme download to be sure – it’s clean! I then uploaded a whole clean Suffusion theme in it’s entirety just in case any other theme files were compromised during the original hack yet were dormant, waiting for a trigger.
A recheck on Securi shows my website to be okay now. See screendump below. I’ll be using Securi a lot more!
Take this for a scam and a half way of fixing the Google search results!
Defrag Search Results
Today I was looking for an old defrag program, but couldn’t remember the name – so I went to Google. That’s the screenshot on the right.
The second result looked promising. After all, the text says,
Anyone know what is currently the best defragmenter for Windows 7 x64 64 bit, and why? Does it have any problems?
News 9 Today (news9today.org)
Unfortunately, tehparadox.com is not all it seems. The page actually referenced is http://tehparadox.com/forum/f85/best-defragmenter-windows-7-x64-452359/, which looks kosher enough, but it has nothing at all to do with disc defragmenters, and everything to do with get rich quick schemes!! (That is a screenshot on the left).
It’s like all the other fake news sites that we’ve seen recently, except in this case, the whole meta data of the website is built to deceive the search engines!
For instance, the title stays in the browser tabs, saying,
name=”keywords” content=”Best,defragmenter,Windows,7,x64,64,bit, Best defragmenter for Windows 7 x64 64 bit?, downloads,free,resources,online,sharing,community,movies,games,720p,1080p,anime,applications,music,tv shows,e-books,comic books,discussions,warez,dvdr,rapidshare,megaupload,netload,hotfile,fileserve,filesonic”
name=”description” content=”Anyone know what is currently the best defragmenter for Windows 7 x64 64 bit, and why? Does it have any problems? Or should I just use the default one that comes with Windows 7? Thanks.”
