Disappearing Bees? Re-appearing Karma

Neonicotinoid pesticides and Colony Collapse Disorder

The Register reports on what seems to be a pretty good study from some guys at Stirling and Lancaster Universities in the UK.  The “boffin-years” worked (as The Register puts it) by them and another French team now have very good proof that it’s a group of pesticides, very lethal to insects but no-so-bad for mammals (like us) that are the cause of:

  • 85% reduction in queen (and thus new hive) production
  • 10% smaller hives
  • Disorientated bees – the bees can’t find their hive and die…

What Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) means for us, as humans, can be found in this information on bee economics which details a few major crops recently hit by declining bee numbers.  Further, this is a list of essential plants which are bee pollinated.  The ones which are marked as “Essential – can’t do without bees” are these highly important cash crops:

  • Squash (plant), Pumpkin, Gourd, Marrow, Zuchini Cucurbita spp. Honey bees, Squash bees, Bumblebees, Solitary bees
  • Cantaloupe, Melon Cucumis melo L. Honey bees, Squash bees, Bumblebees, Solitary bees (Ceratina spp.)
  • American Pawpaw Asimina triloba Carrion Flies, Dung Flies
  • Brazil nut Bertholletia excelsa Bumblebees, Orchid bees (Euglossini), Carpenter bees
  • Kiwifruit Actinidia deliciosa Honey bees, Bumblebees, Solitary bees
  • Atemoya, Cherimoya, Custard apple Annona squamosa Nitidulid Beetles
  • Watermelon Citrullus lanatus Honey bees, Bumblebees, Solitary bees
  • Passion fruit. Maracuja Passiflora edulis Carpenter bees, Solitary bees, Bumblebees,
  • Macadamia Macadamia ternifolia Honey bees, Stingless bees (Trigona carbonaria), Solitary bees (Homalictus spp.), Wasps,Butterflies
  • Sapodilla Manikara zapotilla Thrips
  • Cocoa Theobroma cacao Midges
  • Rowanberry Sorbus aucuparia Honey bees, Solitary bees, Bumblebees, Hover flies
  • Vanilla Vanilla planifolia, Vanilla pompona Solitary bees

Reasons, Nazis and Jews – What are Neonicotinoid Pesticides?

IG Farben

IG Farben (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

There are many candidates for CCD and pesticides are just one possible or contributory factor.  Things like bee predators, mites, electromagnetic radiation, loss of habitat…. it’s quite a long list.

However, the two studies above seem to be pretty secure controlled studies that looked at one factor (the neonicotinoid pesticides), examining the bees in isolation both with and without the expected non-lethal local dosage of the chemicals so as to eliminate the other possible causes.

Wikipedia lists the major neonicotinoid pesticides, and below I match them to their inventor and/or current manufacturer:

  • Acetamiprid – Aventis (French conglomerate inc. Rhône-Poulenc, Hoechst and others)
  • Clothianidin – Bayer, Takeda
  • Dinotefuran – Mitsui
  • Imidacloprid (the most widely used insecticide in the world) – Bayer
  • Nitenpyram – Novartis (formed from Zeneca, Ciba-Geigy, Sandoz)
  • Thiacloprid – Bayer
  • Thiamethoxam- Bayer, Syngenta (another entity formed from Zeneca, Ciba-Geigy, Sandoz)

This photograph of ter Meer (probably as a defendant) was taken by US Army photographers on behalf of the Office of the U.S. Chief of Counsel for the Prosecution of Axis Criminality (OUSCCPAC, May 1945 – Oct. 1946) or its successor organization, the Office of Chief of Counsel for War Crimes (OCCWC, Oct. 1946 – June 1949). Bayer

What’s interesting from this list is how often Bayer pops up in the neonicotinoid (a neuro-toxin) story.

It famously made Zyklon B, which made a poison gas and was one of the main methods of murdering Jews and others by the Nazis during WW2.  It did this under the conglomerate business name of IG Farben which was broken up post war by the allies into the original business entities, Bayer being one, and it’s still around now!

A Bayer (IG Farben) boss, Fritz ter Meer, served 7 years post WW2 for his crimes and then was immediately made supervisory board chairman of Bayer.  His crimes included designing a satellite concentration camp to Auschwitz.  Some Nazi industrialists & businessmen were executed, like Bruno Tesch.  Several other convicted Nazi War Criminals got high-powered jobs following their release, just like ter Meer.

Karmic Retribution

What I see as a reason for the bee decline ultimately relates to our overall karma.

It is not retribution against individuals directly.  The bad karma affects us all, now, because we have continued to allow processes to continue which harm ourselves and our environment.  The disappearing bees are just one manifestation of this.

Ter Meer got his nice job back at Bayer, probably because he was the best person to do it, especially at this critical period of rebuilding Germany.  We could say that he continued his life’s work of creating death by chemicals (which I’ve cunningly yet disingenuously alluded to in order to attract your attention!), but it must be remembered that alongside Zyklon B, the same businesses created many products which are essential to our productive farms and lifestyles.  Aspirin, for instance.  Fertilisers as another.

In fact, Fritz Haber, whose academic work was enthusiastically taken up at IG Farben and others, demonstrates the dichotomy of human nature by inventing chemical warfare while simultaneously inventing a process to fix nitrogen from the air to make fertiliser (or explosive, since it’s the same thing).  One gives life benefit, one removes it completely.  As it says on Wikipedia,

“The food base of half of the current world population is based on the Haber-Bosch process”

Haber’s karmic retribution was swift and fast.  Whether he knew or felt it is beside the point. It happened.

  • His wife shot herself because of her guilt over his personal supervision at the 1st gas release on the Western Front.
  • Their son who found her, was so appalled by this and his father’s actions, that he committed suicide in 1946 (like survivor guilt, I suppose.).
  • Haber was Jewish, rewarded by the Nazis who used his gas Zyklon A, developed into Zyklon B to murder Jews and others during the holocaust.
  • Many members of Haber’s extended family were killed in the Holocaust.

Direct Karmic Attention

But now we can easily see, that by continuing the bad processes, by continuing the bad ideas, by continuing the bad attitudes of the past, the actions of the past have started to hit us all full in the face.

Bees are just part of it.

Our disjointed energy & food policies of “live today, pay tomorrow” are just larger examples of the wider issue.

To fully understand how we should proceed in our lives and how we interact with others and our environment, we need look no further than some key Buddhist principles, laid out before us a very long time ago by Siddhārtha Gautama.  He said:

  1. right view,
  2. right intention,
  3. right speech,
  4. right action,
  5. right livelihood,
  6. right effort,
  7. right mindfulness,
  8. right concentration.

This is called The Noble Eightfold Path, and if we all paid attention to it and acted sincerely with it, then we’d all be a lot better off.

Project Honey Pot

Careful observers to this website may have (but more probably not) discovered a tiny little link on random pages, which includes the main page.  The link is there to trap spammers.  Spammers of all kinds really, because once email addresses are skimmed, then they’re in the wild, but initially I trap comment spammers along with address harvesters.  At the end of this post you can see the spammers and scammers that I’ve help trap so far which means that they’re added to block lists thus saving internet users just a wee bit of trouble.

For me, as a webmaster, it’s no trouble to install and I urge others to do the same.  It’s called Project Honey Pot.

How it Works

For your interest, a file is served to a spammer which anyone can view should they click the tiny link.  The file is different on each website. It’s actually human readable but is constructed as two columns with no space, plus a few invisible characters.  Copying and pasting aren’t straightforward!

In it, are a perfectly readable set of Terms & Conditions which are broadly similar to those on all my websites, except they’re a lot more formal!  Buried in this formality is the statement that anyone who uses an email address sourced from this website is liable to a fee of $50!

This is the full content that (usually) only automated bots will find.  Enjoy!

And yes, naturally, being a webmaster, I record IP addresses for all visitors for a variety of reasons.   Everyone does!  Below is my Spam Honey Pot page.

Turkish Hacker-Crackers, perhaps?

A Cracking Week Off?

I had a week’s holiday of sorts last week.  On returning I found that this website had been cracked. (I already had intimations that something was wrong because of site stat failures and an email from @Justin Asking, sometime commenter to this website and others).  Anyway, so it was.  Unfortunately, I didn’t have good web access so was unable to correct things properly.

The main screen, viewable on zone-h here, was replaced by this,

Site Hack Aug 2011

Site Hack Aug 2011

A neat little JavaScript mouse trailer was part of the package!

The cause was my own – a wide-open directory made so as part of an image upload plugin for my WordPress installation.  This plugin makes it easy and neat for any commenter to add material to the website……unfortunately for me, it allowed any file, with active content or not, to be uploaded.

Needless to say, the plugin is now disabled and the directory is locked down to the specific  file types that I’ll accept.  No more active content allowed there matey!

Unwanted Extras

Once the nasty files were uploaded, the internal site privileges allowed the install of a swathe of .htm files to the site root and uploads folder.  These had various names like f.htm, g.htm etc.  Index.htm was the file on show.

Alongside these, apart from files needed to run the previously mentioned JavaScript, were another swathe of .phtml files, such as joker.phtml, which are actually php code shining as html.  A couple of plain text files had also been uploaded.  These had lists of files, sites and persons.

All .htaccess files were okay as well as the WordPress installation files.  To be sure, I redid the WordPress install from scratch with fresh downloaded files..

Finale

All told, about fifty files were dumped on my website.  I’ve hopefully removed the lot and have them downloaded for analysis at a later date.  The screen content and internal code all points to Turkish or S.E. Asian (Vietnam or Indonesia) Muslim crackers (I refuse to use the hacker term except to clarify the cracking of security by it’s now-common usage).  Saying this, the culprits (the code points to several authors who used freely downloadable files from cracking websites and then proudly expected a pat on the back for their extreme skill at doing a download…like….der….), the culprits could have come from anywhere.

Fifth columnists and agent-provocateurs are nothing new.

Interestingly, being cracked puts me in the same company as at least 186 well-known multinational businesses, such as Acer, Vodaphone, BetFair, The Daily Telegraph, The Register, Spam.Org, Victoria Beckham and Destiny’s Child.

Even System of a Down dot com, was down!

Zone-h’s full list is here.  The Register reports it here, The Guardian here.

The Guardian interview with the crackers notes that the culprits had been planning the attack for some time which obviously includes the time when my site was compromised.  I don’t know if my website was actually used as part of the above DNS server attack but it’s usual for an attack like a DDOS to use several vectors and simultaneous attack points in order to force a server to fail and dump code.  This dump then reveals passwords and the like for later use.

Addendum

WordPress.Org’s forum has a posting about this crack from last week.  A Google search in the comment by RedNeckTexan shows the attack on this website to be far from unique….!   The links I’ve followed go right to the heart of the crack and the people doing the cracking.

This is the Google Search on the “Easy Comment Uploader” plugin.  Like me, RedNeckTexan has pulled the plugin for now, which can be found in the WordPress repository here.

Dodgy Robert Allen on Facebook

Who Is Robert Allen?

For an answer to this, see these posts and follow up comments:

These posts are all related either by Robert Allen and/or the email and websites that advertise products like his and others.  To me, they are all scum, although they may not be actually related.

Facebook Advert

FacebookAdforRobertAllen

Facebook Ad for Robert Allen

Today I got a depressingly familiar advert on my Facebook homepage.  This is it here on the left.

echo-news.co.uk version

On checking with TinEye, I found at least one other example of the image at http://www.echo-news.co.uk/resources/images/656796/ which is the one on the right.

Call me mad, but isn’t there something wrong about the three components of the image – the house, car and bloke – they just don’t look right!

I now followed through on the link to see what my 2011 Deam Lifestyle would be like…..

Fake News Site at wbcnewsonline.com

Is Working Online At Home The Next Gold Rush

This news site is called “News11 Today” and is notable for the complete absence of the French newsreader Melissa Therieau!  This is the full screen grab on the right.

It has the tagline:

“Is Working Online At Home The Next Gold Rush”

Unfortunately, the image and caption at the top right of the fake news site have this extract, which I’ve shown on the here below:

News11 blatant Google Lie

News11 blatant Google Lie

News11 blatant Google Lie

And it is a blatant lie!

To para-quote;

“Google have NOT opened their doors and are NOT allowing the public to post links from the comfort of their homes on THEIR website.”

In fact Google have always had a pretty open door policy and allow anyone to post adverts for search or display adverts on their own website for fees.  They have always done it!!!

It’s what they do.

Google is an advert sponsored search engine!!!

It’s how they make their money!

Advert Link – the real monkey.

The whole point of the fake news site “News11 Today” is the promotion of a single advert which they claim is for:

Automated Home Profits.

The Automated Home Profits link actually goes to

wbcnewsonline.com

http://wbcnewsonline.com/business/uk-breaking-news002.php?c1=gb&c2=m&c3=24any&c4=1

Regular readers of these pages will not be surprised to learn that this “business” hides their identity (see my opinion on hidden identity here) – see WHOIS link

And knowledgable and wise internet folk will also not be surprised that the link takes you to a typically gaudy Get-Rich-Quick website, prototing the dubious merits of Robert Allen.  This time it is called… wait for it (drumroll)…

Home Wealth Package

Home Wealth Package - 1st page

Home Wealth Package - 1st page

The actual URL (after a redirect from http://wbcnewsonline.com/business/read-more.php) is http://apply.robertallenswealthpackage.com/?hop=rgamedia&c1=467659339&c2=400444 and it looks like the screenshot on the left.

Amazingly, there are only 5 places remaining!  (This dubious sales tactic is everywhere on the web as well as normal retail – this post I wrote over two days and in the morning there were still 5 places remaining, gosh.)

Now obviously, this is a pile of poo.  But when you try to leave you get:

“The begging prompt” – see here:

Please Don't Go!

You will notice that the cakground has changed….?  This is because the page has redirected to another one already!  It’s:

http://apply.robertallenswealthpackage.com/qualified/

Home Wealth Package - qualified!

Home Wealth Package - qualified!

..which means that trying to close the crap, qualifies me for an e-e-e-even more special offer that allows me to earn up to £379 per day (actually, I won’t get out of bed for less than £380 a day, so they’ve failed on that one).   This is the full page on the left.

An analysis of the page shows the same “loadsa money” girl from the Google Treasure Chest templates and I even spotted one iStockPhoto in the guise of the couple called “Jane & Jeremy C – Liverpool, UK”.

But check the bottom of the page – they carefully state in the smallest font known to mankind that,

Photos used are Not of actual customers.

Well that’s alright then.

Another thing that is obviously alright as it obviously does not seek to decieve is the disclaimer in tiny font at the bottom that states,

Home Wealth Package is not associated with CNN, People and TIME

…despite the prominently displayed logos at the top of the page.  This behaviour also occurred on the first landing page.  See two screenshots below.

This is a common pattern of behaviour for these scam get-rich-quick websites – they almost always have huge random logos of reputable internet businesses which are then diclaimered away in tiny printy at the botoom of the page.

Sign Up & Start Earning!  Rush My Order!

Handily there’s still five “positions” remaining….  Better get one fast, eh?  Clicking the nice large buttons takes me to this screen, where the logo disclaimer is now noticable by its absence!

Please note the text at the bottom which states “We respect your privacy and will not rent or share your information with anyone.”   – –  This is NOT what happened when I did this previously (see links at beginning of this post).  At that time my email address was mercilessly spread around like confetti!

Click Bank Payment Form

Clicking that button takes me to the Click Bank form where I would normally pay my £19.97.

At this point I left but consider what Robert Allen and his marketteers now have, even though I haven’t bought anything…?

  • They have my name.
  • They have my phone number.
  • They have my email address.

Fortunately, I gave my name as Mystic Meg, my phone number is that of Scotland Yard and my email address is my spam harvester.

But for anyone else suckered into this tissue of lies, they’d now be open to even more spam as an absolute minimum.

Co-incidence?

Co-incidentally with my observance of the Facebook advert, I got some email spam this morning onto a little-used email address that wanted to sell me email spam lists by profession! It looks like the start of a new campaign.

This is it with my email xxxx-ed out:

Internet Businesses, Court?

Introduction

roostersThe 9/11 period, (or 11th September in some places), has been interesting of late with regard to internet marketing and litigation as it applies to certain entities not unfamiliar to these pages.

Pacific WebWorks (PWW)

A Randy Guffey is named as the class action plaintiff against the “business” of PWW.  The nature of the suit?

Torts – Property – Truth in Lending

See this link, and more to follow when news filters out.

Jesse Willms

A few quick things around good ol’ lovable Jesse Willms have come out in the last few days.

  1. He’s been feverishly tanking up a blog on “internet ethics”.  See and the daily list of patronising postings from his holier-than-thou-ness.
  2. He’s plopping out yet more feeds about his “business”.  See http://www.prweb.com/releases/2010/09/prweb4486904.htm for instance which starts off with the classic line from Jesse,  “Bad customer service can destroy your business”. Well either that or getting caught for thieving by the copyright owners such as Microsoft and having to fork out millions in damages! That’ll also do it!
  3. He’s now taken to threatening legal action against anyone telling the truth about his activities….  Just small fry mind you.  Not the major TV companies who’ve exposed him, say.  Take Michael Larson of http://www.pyxisstudios.us/public/about-us.html, say.  In this document (link to pdf) from the lawyers Kronenburger, they conveniently provide a list to a host of complaints about SwipeBids (not SwipeActions mind you!).  Well it’s nice to have everything in one place for easy referral isn’t it?

In (3) above, most of Larson’s words are prior comment.  They’re just scare tactics.

Larson has taken this on board.  Cunningly, , has quite a few things to say about all this.  He’s now reminding everyone about the US RICO act.  This means the:

Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act

In light of these facts, we see Jesse Willms actions with more clarity.

Conclusion

Willms is presenting a cleaner and cleaner image of himself to the world, like his charitable donations and continuing deluge of helpful moralising.

Unfortunately for him, the web has a memory, easily called up.  It’s not like having a playground argument where the winner walks away and all is forgotten, because all his weasely ways, frauds and deceptions are there in black and white for all to see with a quick Google search!

He knows what he’s done.  His current disguising actions are just fluff and bluster, because his past is there all the time.

Maybe the RICO act will get him?  Maybe a host of class actions?  He thinks his current penny auction site is an auction, the Government thinks it’s a lottery and should be governed by gaming laws (see RICO act for some of this).  He thinks  he’s being charitable with his money and helpful with his current blogging, we see it as self-serving deviousness.

Pacific WebWorks are being hit by another class action and legal case.  This is another reason why the share price hasn’t risen following the Google cop-out (sorry, agreement).  I wonder how many more are in the pipeline?
