Amazing and Weird When the pictures were taken, it was nearly pitch dark outside! The shots are in 2 columns below, taken at about 1 this morning. Those on the left are “autoenhanced” using Irfanview as part of the batch resize operation before uploading to the web. Those on the right are resized without any [...]
Iggy at HammersmithI’ve been (and still am!) busy over the last few months moving house and otherwise making a new life for myself. Despite this, I did find time to go a see an event that I never thought would happen – James Williamson & Iggy Pop playing on stage together- for the first time in 30 [...] |

Thin Moon over BridgwaterUsing my Panasonic Lumix TZ7 and it’s fantastic zoom and image stabilisation, and at low-ish light levels (dusk), I took the following pictures last night of the thinnest, slimmest, almost invisible moon that I’ve ever seen. Just after the sun set, the bats were flying and the moon was ever-so-close to the sun. On 12x [...] |
Back from FuneralAfter driving through blizzards to get there, I took this little video of King Edward’s Bay en route to the Gibraltar Rock Inn in Tynemouth. It was freezing and I was shivering…. What it demonstrates quite effectively, is the anti-shake at work on my camera and the fantastic level of zoom it has. The colours [...] |
Forest FunFinal preparations for Xmas dinner involved another trip to Wallace’s venison Farm on the Blackdown Hills for some Venison and Bison roasting joints. Across the main road is a National trust area which has fantastic views over Taunton Vale, as seen here! All pictures taken on a Panasonic Lumix TZ-7, although not all by me! |
Exceptionally Clear Air Over SomersetFollowing a cold, frosty night, when the early morning fog had lifted, I noticed that the air overhead was exceptionally clear, transparent, and un-disturbed. This is readily apparent with the cropped aeroplane flying at over five miles up, where the engines and red markings on the tail are quite clear. The pictures are taken using [...] |
Bridgwater KingfisherI’ve just uploaded this video using different software and process so I don’t know how it’ll appear yet. However, see if you can spot the kingfisher? It’s a remarkable bird that I’ve been trying to catch on camera for ages. When they’re stationary in trees they’re almost impossible to see. When they fly, they are [...] |
Approaching StormAll photos taken on a Panasonic Lumix TZ7 – (I dropped the TZ5 on a tiled floor and it broke – note to self, be more careful) |
UK (Spider’s) Webs Bigger than EverMore insects expected this autumn – reports the BBC. It’s going to be a good year for spiders! Buglife are having another spider hunt (see link). My contribution is this web that I saw this morning, fresh and undisturbed, illuminated like diamond wires by a shaft of sunlight through the trees. The photo is cropped, [...] |
I’m Closer to the Golden DawnSome may recognise this post’s title – it’s the opening line from David Bowie’s ‘Quicksand’ and refers to Alistair Crowley‘s OTO-like organisation. Personally, I like the tune and it always comes to mind on mornings like today when the sky was like the photosphere of the Sun, absolutely flawless in it’s colour transitions. The pictures [...] |
Banksy Headless Chicken? Evelyn Moves.Evelyn has moved to a new place (in Bristol) with her mate. My mate Nobby and I helped her move. Amazingly, she’s got her own bit of (probable) Banksy art right outside her front door – a headless chicken! Hopefully it’ll stay as it’s quite neat, I think. (The pictures are taken with my Panasonic [...] |
Picnic at The Engine HouseAssorted pictures taken on my Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 yesterday. All photos are 16:9 wide-screen resolution, batch resized using Irfanview from the initial 3712 x x2088 to a maximum dimension of 1024 pixels and set to 85% jpg compression. This means they should have a reasonable load time in the browser and display adequately. Some back-lighting [...] |
Butterflies and ConvolvulusButterflies and Convolvulus (and George the Dog) Just a few shots taken today using my Panasonic Lumix TZ5 with a mix of flash, action and automatic settings. |
Site Rework – Header Photo Gallery for the Curious,Introduction I’ve been busy this weekend having a twiddle with the site appearance. I got a bit fed up with dragons so now it’s an anachronistic mix of Edinburgh Rock shades and the Gallows! There are a shedload of random photos sliced into the header taken by me, Strangely Perfect, using my new Panasonic TZ5. [...] |
