Democracy and Freedom

I’ve been on holiday for a while.  Today’s encouragement from Sensei I thought wonderfully appropriate for us in Britain, given the imminent general election and the hunt for a supposed centre ground.

The Deeper I Go, The More Knowledge I Know

The Deeper I Go, The More Knowledge I Know

Quite simply, there can be no true democracy unless the citizens of a country realize that they are sovereign, that they are the main protagonists, and then with wisdom and a strong sense of responsibility take action based on that realization.

Democracy cannot be successful in its mission unless the people rouse themselves to become more informed and involved, unless they unite, unless they establish an unshakable force for justice and keep a strict eye on the activities of the powerful.

The Face of Evil

Bishop Richard Williamson says No Gas Cambers existed..

As time passes and memories of mass slaughter diminish, many people start to doubt that people could do such ghastly things to others.  They think, ‘can it really be true?  Surely not?’.  And so it is with the nutty Bishop.

Don’t let his bumbling aristocratic ramblings fool you though.  He believes in power and control.  Power over women, power over everyone.  His creed is to ensnare people in the mumbo-jumbo of everlasting life;  but only if you do as I say, pay me for saying it, and under the strict belief that it’s after you die that this ‘nirvana’ arrives.  In truth, he’s a relic from the old catholic church that burnt people at the stake under the merest hint of ‘evidence’ to maintain power, status and control over others.  He’s only lamenting his loss, that’s all, of all the credence he may once have had.

In the bishop’s ramblings above he claims to have ‘studied the evidence’ and come to the conclusion that 6m Jews didn’t get gassed and there were no gas chambers.

My Personal Statement

Eisenstadt Jewish Cemetery

This picture is of a Jewish cemetery in Eisenstadt this year, by me.  The last Jew buried there was in 1938.  After that time, all 466 Jews of this small town (modern pop. ~11,000) were marched off to their death.  The town is not much bigger now than it was in WW2 from my estimation of new builds.

View Eisenstadt Jewish Cemeteries in a larger map

Calculation Time: So if I say the wartime population of Eisenstadt was about the same, this is about 4.2% of the town were done in.  We know that in Germany, Austria, Poland, Holland, Hungary, Croatia and France etc that the Jews over the preceding centuries had tried to assimilate themselves so as not to ghetto-ise themselves and make bigger targets for hatred.  So if Eisenstadt is a typical town (it is!), and if at the time of the Nazi yoke  there were about 250 million people in Europe under their cudgel (there was!), this gives a total of about 10 million murdered.  This, as a ball-park figure, is close to the 6 million Jews and others usually claimed as being killed.

For me, the evidence of my own eyes tied to a bit of simple statistical work as used by polsters at election time is good enough for me.  I’m not going to quibble over the odd million in a war of absolute barbarity and ferocity that claimed the deaths of over 100 million.

The real truth is that there is ample documentary evidence in the invoices for the agents of death, visual artifacts of the said agents, and corroborating evidence from thousands of camp survivors who had the odious task of wheeling the bodies from the chambers and shoving them into crematoria or burial pits.  Read Eliahu Rosenberg’s words above and the scores of other testimony now being made available on YouTube etc.

Vasili BlokhinEliahu escaped and the shame is that when evidence from him and others reached the UK and USA, it was disbelieved as being too incredible.  Unfortunately,  about this period the Nazis had uncovered a mass execution site in Poland which was proved to be of Russian doing, the Katyn massacre.  ( This man, Vasili Blokhin, was personally responsible for shooting 6000 in 28 days ).  This fed their propaganda machine for a long time, re-enforcing the Allies’ doubts about the Nazi extermination camp stories.

Eisenhower at Ohrdruf Death CampPartly for this reason, (and to his credit), at Eisenhower’s insistent command, when the camps were over-run by the allies, they were filmed even though the perpetrators had tried to cover up their ghastly deeds.  Eisenhower said that they must be filmed (against some opposition it must be said) because no-one in the future will believe any of this actually happened.  He made sure that all soldiers wherever possible had to visit the camps ASAP and called in the press so that there were as many genuine witnesses to history as possible.   How prescient.  How prescient.  Similarly, the British got the local inhabitants of the town next to Bergen-Belsen to clean and feed the remaining survivors, remove and bury the rotting corpses and point out the perpetrators because they all knew what was going on.

Jasenovac Knife – Srbosjek – The Serb Cutter

Not all people were gassed, of course.  Examining various pieces from all of the above evidence shows that the early main method of mass extermination was gunshot or hanging and that the chambers were invented to speed up the process of killing and make it cheaper by saving on bullets.  One particularly brutal Croat used a knife like this one to kill 1360 in a day at Jasenovac.

The evil bishop, by his words, just adds fuel to the holocaust denial crowd who will use all methods of devious distraction argument to ‘disprove’ the documentary evidence.  Millions of Jewish, Gypsy, Romany, mentally infirm, physically deformed, spies, common Russian soldiers etc were killed by the Nazis in WW2.  Millions more were killed by the Russians and other East Europeans at the same time.

One set of killing is in no way better or worse, more or less justified, and none should be compared against the other.   They are all crimes against our fellow human beings.

This is the view of myself and the SGI, a lay organization of Buddhists using the teachings of the monk Nichiren to improve our own lives and everyone around us.  Sensei (Daisaku Ikeda) in his video today said to denounce evil, slander and untruths in all it’s forms.  I hope I’ve done so.

Sensei’s Guidance for Today.

Over the last few days the devilish forces have been rampant across the globe.

Everyone is trying to say they’ve had a worse experience than everyone else, their news is much worse than anyone else’s news, people are convicted for psychotic, despicable acts against their own children while concurrently, murderously deranged acts happen in Mumbai in India, for instance.

The SGI is a global organisation dedicated to the furtherance of peace and happiness for every person on the world.  It uses the words and deeds of a 13th century Japanese Buddhist called Nichiren as inspiration to achieve these two goals.  From small beginnings in 1930, it has grown under the courageous leadership of Toda and Daisaku Ikeda to it’s current size of over 10 million like-minded people in 192 countries.

Today, Sensei (Ikeda), says this:

“Guiseppe Mazzini (1805-72), a leader in the movement for Italian unity and independence, observed: ‘Great ideas create great peoples.’

The confusion caused by false ideas and doctrines has inflicted terrible damage on the people’s spirit, promoting widespread feelings of powerlessness and apathy on the one hand, and encouraging rampant prejudice and egotism on the other.
Our effort to ‘establish the correct teaching for the peace of the land‘ is a spiritual struggle to transform this bleak situation.

“In The Record of the Orally Transmitted Teachings, Nichiren Daishonin states: ‘Generally speaking, the term ‘Thus Come One’ refers to all living beings. More specifically, it refers to the disciples and lay supporters of Nichiren’ (OTT, 124). A Thus Come One or Buddha is not some sort of supernatural being far removed from us. We, ordinary people, who uphold the Daishonin’s Buddhism, dedicated to the highest good, are Thus Come Ones or Buddhas.”

Soka Gakkai Founder’s Day

Today is the anniversary of the founding of Soka Gakkai in 1930 and also the anniversary of the death of first president Mr Makiguchi in prison at the hands of the corrupt and fascist Japanese government during WW2, only 14 years later.

This is the front page of our newspaper, Seikyo Shimbun.  The headline reads;

Today is the founders day!!!!

Poems of joy and value creation towards the 80th anniversary of the Soka Gakkai.

Introduction

Lotus Flower - photo by Strangely PerfectI’ve nabbed the content of this from Ted Penfold.  My wife, has told me that she heard this lecture of Dick’s and found it and him some of the most inspiring things in her life.  I came across this wonderful piece by chance, looking for some background information on Nikko, the second guy after (Nichiren) in our prayers, and repeat it here so that more people might be similarly inspired.

I’ve corrected some spellings from the original transcript here which I assume were due to OCR transcription errors, mainly.  I’ve also added a few links, where appropriate, to external sources (SP)

n.b. Admonitions = Precepts = Warnings.  The three terms appear in different places, but essentially mean the same thing (SP)

LECTURE ON THE TWENTY-SIX ADMONITIONS OF NIKKO SHONIN by the late SGI UK General Director, Richard Causton

LecturnThe following lecture by SGI UK General Director, Richard Causton, based on various lectures given by him around the U.K. and overseas during late 1992 and 1993, was inspired by SGI President Ikeda’s guidance on this subject on 24th October 1992. This lecture first appeared as a series of articles in SGI-UK’s monthly magazine, the U.K. Express. (now called Art of Living – SP)
