Class Action Against Pornbrokers

This class action suit caught my eye today from one of my feeds, ClassActionLawsuitsInTheNews.

YouPorn, YouPorn Cocks and YouPorn Gay Privacy Class Action Lawsuit Complaint Filed Over Alleged Internet Browsing History Sniffing

Thoughts

Initially, I thought,

“well that’s tough on those visiting such websites…. they should know what to expect…”

…and other such sentiments.

But then I thought,

“hang on – this technology is used by all websites, and the principle of using vulnerabilities in Java (this time) and other coding as a means to steal user information etc can be applied to all websites that we visit”

It’s not the same as revealing government or business secrets that in an honourable and ethical world should not be secret in the first place, is it?

No it isn’t.

The difference is in the scale of the watching – because the defendants are using Big Brother monitoring techniques for the prime purpose of theft in all its guises.

Notionally, our governments are supposed to “ask the people” by way of an appointed legal authority to do phone tapping etc.  The fact that Wikileaks has exposed our representatives doing the opposite time & time again (amongst other illegal things) only clarifies the difference between the right way of living and the wrong.

If our representatives acted honourably, then there would be no need for Wikileaks, or Amnesty International etc.

And plainly, the class action shows that a whole host of people believe the porno-defendants were not acting honourably at the personal level.  How many people think this?

Well, the class action is asking for relief for, get this……

Each and every United States resident who has visited Defendant’s website in the previous four years.

And that’s one heap of a list of IP addresses. Where will they get that? Hmmm.

All Healthcare is Temporary in America

Healthcare Woes

NHS LogoLying sick in bed this morning listening to a Radio 5 phone-in about the “state” of our Accident & Emergency (A&E) healthcare system here in the UK, I was struck by the failure of the radio show’s producers to engender the expected flurry of tales of woe and poor service.

Happy and Immaculate Professionalism

Far from the engineered curses that the show had hoped to produce – instead, a host of people took the time to phone in and praise the excellent service, waiting times, courtesy and professionalism that they had witnessed, sometimes under conditions of the utmost duress (e.g. during the accident black-spot due to falls on the winter ice).

Proposed Cutbacks

We are now all primed for cutbacks in services in the UK to pay for the banks’ greed.  However, all parties promise to protect the NHS’s frontline services.

The UK spends less on healthcare per capita than the USA.  This is not in doubt.  In fact, the USA spends more per person than any other country.

But now, consider this news article from Philadelphia in Pennsylvania.  See how front-line healthcare staff are treated in the USA and consider the service you are likely to receive from such a system?

Obama’s Broken Temple Problem

Philadelphia Nurses Strike

Philadelphia Nurses Strike

The nurses at the Temple Hospital in Philadelphia have been on strike since March 31st.  This much is clear.

However, in contrast to the UK (and most of Europe), all the staff appear to be on fixed term contracts which had expired last SeptemberIn the UK, if you are good enough and pass all the tests, you get a job and keep your job (unless you need to move or progress in your career, say), to serve your local community.  As new techniques arrive, you pass more tests etc.  You build up your skills as part of a team.

In the USA, they appear to sack all staff from nurses downwards when their contracts are up, then replace all the staff with temporary staff!  This means that,

Most healthcare USA Workers are temporary…

The trouble is that all the right-wing forces at work there seem to believe that this is a good system and actually mock our NHS with comments like, “have you seen their teeth?”.  This is Obama’s problem with his efforts at healthcare reform.  The real truth is shielded from those in work and with private healthcare insurance, and they are a vociferous lot!

Healthcare?

The real truth is a warning:   Do Not Fall Sick Near Temple Hospital…. After all, what sort of care could one expect from a hospital staffed like that?  No matter how personally caring the staff are, there is no communication, no camraderie, no continuity, no honour.

In the dog eat dog world of America, it’s the last man standing who wins;  but what’s the point of being in a club of one?

Patriotic Battle

In fact, I have to question the sanity of anyone who would fight to defend a country (or it’s overseas interests) that treats it’s own citizens in pain with contempt and it’s caring profession with worthless indifference.

Cannot Find British National Party (BNP) membership and contacts list? (April 2009 version)

Nasty Nick of the BNP

Nasty Nick of the BNP

There’s something weird about the recent ‘leak’ of BNP members’ names.  The list is available on the Wikileaks website here:

http://wikileaks.org/wiki

/British_National_Party_

membership_list_and_

other_information,_15_Apr_2009

There’s currently some trouble with downloading due to server overload.  Also, people are complaining that the file is a binary Excel workbook containing several worksheets.  It’s about 1.5Mb in size.  I’ve saved it as a standard Excel workbook which is 6.5Mb, quite a bit bigger, but friendlier.  If anyone wants it, drop me a line using the secure contact form in the top menu.  I haven’t the time to properly database it to get decent information from the data….(but see below for it’s veracity)

Nazi Nick in the National Front

Nazi Nick in the National Front

What’s weird is that the BNP claim it’s a fake list…!! (The last time this happened they were outraged at the leak ironically claiming loss of civil liberties, individual freedom and privacy, which is a bit rich coming  from the inheritors of the Nazi tradition.  A disgruntled Nazi was later fined £200 under data protection laws.)

Now I’m not sitting any BNP scum at the top of my ‘honest & honourable folk’ list, but suppose, just suppose that the Griffin with the twisted face is telling the truth.  Literally.  Just suppose that the list really is forged…

In that case, answer my favourite question when unlikely events happen and some reason needs apportioning, which is:

Q. Who Has Most to Gain?

A. The BNP!

It’s obvious really!   By this act they’ve amassed a whole heap of free publicity prior to the BBC’s Question Time show this week.  At times like this, there are no co-incidences.

It’s my guess that this is an example of the classic double-bluff.  George Smiley would be proud.

The BNP have amassed a list containing a few old member’s names and a heap of duds, then  posted it out onto Wikileaks themselves with the express purpose of self-promotion.

By this means, they’re trying to appear as the poor down-trodden underdogs, standing up for individual freedoms!

The technique is exactly the same as the Google Treasure Chest thieving scammers from UTAH who’ve posted online articles that purport to disclose the scammers and their operations but in actual fact, those same articles then try and flog more scam thievery!  (see Watch Out for the Scam Double-Bluff!)

A similar internet scam is the recent surge in fake anti-malware that actually installs the malware – and gets you to pay for the privilege!  (see Millions tricked by ‘scareware’)

It’s all the same – a double bluff!  Something disguised as something else!

ScamVictimHelp.com, Poacher turned Gamekeeper?

Introduction

Poacher turned Gamekeeper

a gun

Poacher or Gamekeeper?

I’ve been rss following a little thread where a job-seeking homeworker has been diddled out of thousands – see Saundrak’s Blog. It seems to have close ties to Pacific Webworks et al, maybe not directly, but the Golf Course, techniques,  or something.

Read this curious comment from someone called mlwood79 that just doesn’t look right to me, following my experiences with the scammers double-bluff etc in the old Google Treasure Chest scam.

Tracing mlwood79?

It’s not hard and doesn’t take long.  Despite not leaving any open invitation, Matt Wood leaves his email and phone number here, http://mlwood79.blogspot.co.uk/, a single post on the free blogger web.

A similar search on the 877-725-8882 phone number pulls out something interesting.  For instance, there are these postings on various consumer/scam forums:

www.scamvictimhelp.com

Very quickly we end up at scamvictimhelp.com from these few links above.  They provide a fair bit of information.

225/365 - scam

Another Scam or Two?

scamvictimhelp.com is a very plush and professional looking site, with an opening video that put the colley-wobbles up me after my Robert G Allen experiences and the various Robert Millar video offerings. (see here for instance).

But the wordage is re-assuring enough, textually and on the video.  They seem to be White Knights, offering help to people who’ve been scammed by the recent splurge of Google/Tree/Credit stuff.

(On the subject of White Knights, Paul at WorkAtHomeTruth has had a separate rant that hints at the scammer’s double-bluffing we’ve previously observed.  Their new twists around old habits know no bounds!  Either that or piss-poor altruism.)  Who was it who said ‘eternal vigilance’?

Q. So Who are ScamVictimHelp.com?

A. Now there’s the rub!  USA folks will know the 877 phone number is non-geographic and a free-phone (see phone info).  The contact on the website is (like this one), a simple contact form.  So I don’t know where they are, from that! Hmm?

Q. So WHOIS ScamvictimHelp.com?

A. And there’s another rub!  Their name is ‘protected’ just like the scammers’, by Domains by Proxy, Inc. So I don’t know where they are from that! This facility is ‘supposed’ to be used to “protect individuals from spam”, but the reality for me is that,

if someone, offering a service, wants to hide their identity, then they’re up to no good!!!

Other Inconsistencies

So we see they want to hide themselves.   But from examining their website and some other forum postings (a weird way to advertise, is it not?), I’ve got three email contacts for the company:

  • Matt Wood – [email protected]
  • via spam reported here[email protected]
  • same email address is on http://www.scamvictimhelp.com/ homepage
  • Tyler Jackson – [email protected]

This means that they’re hiding their detail not because they don’t want to be spammed, but for another reason

By the way, I use email obfuscation on this website provided by Mike Greenberg ‘s phpEnkoder, which makes it almost impossible for content scraping robots to harvest email addresses for spam purposes.  Many sites use a similar technique….   but looking at their page source code, scamvictimhelp just use the simple mailto: html directive, which means that their email addresses can be harvested, but since the main one arrived in someone’s spam anyway, they don’t care about that, obviously.

You’ve got to really question their motives now…

Q. But What About ScamVictimHelp.com?

A. Well the best thing is to quote their stuff straight from their ‘About’ page (my emphasis below)…

We at ScamVictimHelp.com have a combined work experience of 25 years in the work-from-home/home based business industry. We have owned and operated back end telesales call centers for the majority of those years. Selling products, services, and personal coaching, designed to teach people how to make money from home through the internet, vending, stock market investing, real estate, and everything else in between. In which, we generated over 30 million dollars in sales revenue.

So they are a sales force organisation!  And I still don’t know where they are from that! Like I said at the beginning, poacher turned gamekeeper?  hmm…?  (Ironically, my original hook into this, Saundrak,  was because she was conned by a ‘personal coaching service’!!)

The best bit is in their very short Terms page.  Basically, they’ve stripped out all the reams of disclaimers and obfuscated money arrangements from the usual scammer T&Cs, and said that if you do happen to take up an offer from the website, all the results are from your work, and they can’t be blamed for anything…   the key scammer phrase of ‘opportunity seeker’ also pops up, like a bent penny.   Look! ….here’s what they say, so make up your own mind:

Any business opportunity related programs approved or recommended by Scam Victim Help.com, LLC on this site still require a sincere effort and patience on the part of the opportunity seeker. Since your results depend on the effort you apply to your business; individual results may vary

And I still don’t know where they are from that! Is this still poacher turned gamekeeper?  hmmm…?

Conclusion

If you’ve read some of the links listed above, you’ll have gathered that there’s a lot of uncertainty about this company.  Currently, from my limited research, no-one seems prepared to say right out that they’re up to no good.

But for my money, unless I start seeing some very positive reports and a lot more openness, I’d need a very large bargepole before I’d approach them.  Now where do you get barge-poles…?  Ha Ha.

Update 3 Nov 2009

Send in the Clones

Send in the Clones

The Vowells mentioned in the comments below have a host of businesses and put a lot into their local community.  Apart from the permanently dead car sales place previously at http://www.stgeorgechamber.com/New%20Members/executive.car.sales.htm, they have oil wells in Texas and a never-ending supply of internet-based ideas, like we’ve found.  Their former business www.oilinvestorsonline.com seems to be no more, at least in the internet world.

Whois Capital Energy Corp

Whois Capital Energy Corp

Capital Energy Corp is still going though, and, unusually, unlike the St George Runners Baseball team who’ve cloaked their identity behind DomainsByProxy, are still visible to a WHOIS query!

Whois Intelligent Marketing

Whois Intelligent Marketing

Curiously, since I checked a month or two back on the Baseball website, a lot of contact details have disappeared from the website.  I can understand the Vowell’s reasons….

But hey-ho.  There’s another Todd Vowell at a company called www.intelligentmarketing.com, in Cally-Forny-I-A!  But y’know, it may not be the same guy (Paul at WorkAtHomeTruth always treats such info with circumspection as he says in the comments below), but it’s quite a co-incidence, especially since my OpenDNS blocked the website right off because it’s classified as “Adware”!

Use OpenDNS
Same as this link here about a business disagreement…

How to Quickly Block an IP Address from your Website

Use .htaccess!!!

*Ebook Admin/Secure Apache

I’ve mentioned it before – and the technique I used to use a lot with a huge list of blocked IP addresses.  I then decided that the list was too time consuming to maintain and stopped using it except in extreme cases about the end of last year.  Such a thing was last night when I got 3 spam comment hits in rapid succession.  (is that all, I can hear the cries!).  The thing is, I hardly get to see spam because of the measures I’ve used.

But seeing spam is not the same as receiving spam!

So what I did was to quickly add a single block until this little episode is passed, probably a day or so.  It relates to this this comment here: http://strange…google-treasure-chest-phone-and-address-list/#comment-1399

This is what I added to my site’s .htaccess file:

#who has access who doesn't
order allow,deny
deny from 78.32.230.59
allow from all
#end access blocking list

Simple innit!  WordPress and it’s plugins doesn’t even get to see the ping.  Any pings from 78.32.230.59 are effortlessly palmed away.    The order of the ‘allow, deny’ is important…

Extra Investigation

I did a Google Search on a part of the text that looks really weird here:

http://www.google.com/search?q=%22Wall+clock.+I+found+only+this%22

The text in the message I used is : “Wall clock. I found only this”

There are HUNDREDS of comment spams on websites that should really be protecting themselves better.  Websites devoted to Alzheimers Disease and even Amnesty International!
